Gray day at Merritt Island yesterday, so a bald sky behind this spoonbill. Taken with the II-III-II combo.

Really great stuff everyone.

I just received my 7d2 yesterday and my initial thoughts are all of the pretty danged happy variety.

I will be shooting a swim meet Saturday, has anyone shot swimming? Any suggestions on which Case to use? I will be using my 70-200 f2.8 II and my 85 f1.8 lenses and I'll use single point so I can nail the faces as they breath. The 10 fps will be great for sniping those extremely quick freestyle breaths with 2-3 frames per.

Whatever you do, set tracking to -2.

Btw, do you have link to Art's video? It doesn't cost to watch it does it?

So at -2 it won't grab focus on obstavles as quickly? Not sure I'm stating that clearly, but it will stay on target better?

Exactly, especially when swimmers are doing the butterfly. Below is the 7D2 AF guide.

For that shot:

Large Zone AF, left block
Case 1 with -2, +2, +2
1st image priority - focus, 2nd - equal
Intital AFpt, Al servo AF: Auto
iTR: On

Also helps to set the lens focus limiter to farthest so acquisition is improved.

Thanks Kesterc.

Cheers
Gus

Help the noob please, what does
'Large Zone AF, left block'
mean exactly ??
I'm guessing zone with the left zone chosen, it's the 'large'
that is throwing me off, with me thinking large=all possible points
but knowing this can't be the case here.
And so far I've read to avoid any zone mode for BIFs ???

Thanks for course for any clues :)

Arthur Morris uses case 3, but seems to choose it because it's one he rarely uses. Does it matter which case we use if we put -2,+2,+2?

Yes, avoiding zone is good advice. But it works well when the bird stands out against the background well. If the background is busy, I try to stick with Expand or Surround AF.

"Large Zone AF, Left Block" is simply the left most of the 3 groupings of AF points when in Large Zone area selection.

Gotcha, thanks! So far I've stayed in expand/surround the one center point. I think that is where I'll stay.

My first photo on this thread, my first eagle with the 7d2, taken on the first afternoon I had it and shot out my car window.
