Start it out with a Great Blue Heron. Hope people post to this, would love to see a nice representation of all of these birds.

This is a Sandhill that lives by my house. I see him almost daily. They're all over the place but this guy is distinctive as you can see....he's missing a foot. Doesn't seem to bother him much, he gets around just fine.

Herons, Egrets and Bitterns = Ardeidae ie: same family

Cranes = Gruidae, not even the same order.

Just saying.
