Limbwalker, maybe far off but still great captures.
We're in the same boat here, we do have eagles but they are rare and hard to find.

I rented one of these for a few days. IQ was sometimes very good, but autofocus was slow and inconsistent on my 7D. VC was excellent. Her's a few of the better shots, all hand held.

First time hand-holding this lens. For me; a tripod is better, but good to know there is an option.

Heya,

1D2 + Tamron 150-600. I'm finding the 1D2 commands the Tamron around nicely. I'm able to easily track birds in flight hand held with it using center point with expansion AI servo.

La Chua Trail, Gainesville, Florida.

Versatile lens, able to capture the tiny song birds and the mighty lizards.

Peter, I was looking at that gimbal head as well, but it looks shiny. I'll be interested to see what you think of it. I have the Opteka GH-1 and am really pleased with mine. I have heard some aren't smooth in panning but mine is like butter.

I would really be interested in a sidekick style, I think Induro makes a nice one. I really love my Vanguard SBH300 ballhead and I hate taking it off to install the gimbal and vice-versa.

Gabe, I always love your Juncos! That cute little bird never gets enough love in the birding world but I very much enjoy them visiting my feeders.

Well I got the gimbal and size compare with Opteka the Movo is much much bigger and well built also, I like it so far There are mixed reviews in Amazon but I think I will keep it. I like that the base is bigger than Opteka GH1, and it so smooth in panning, I was surprised to see that the manual said Movo/Gepe which sells 299.00 but the Movo is just 99. I have not use it outside since it's been raining and I amk busy at work. This weekend I will give it a try.

MalVeauX.

I like these, also like your 200mm ones.
Will have a few days in Florida next month, intend to bring the Tamron, and 7D. Would you think it worth bringing the 200F2.8 as well?
For birds and animals, hopefully.

Bob

Heya,

I go with my Tamron 150-600 on my 1D2 and the Canon 200 F2.8L (prime, MKI) on my APS-C. That way I have a low light option in case it's under a canopy. I don't use tripods when I'm out in the marsh, so I need shutter speed. I also take the 200 F2.8 because I like to have an option for a CPL. Here in Florida, the reflections are insane and the meter is awful with those white reflections. CPL lets me shoot gators, turtles, things near water, etc. You can see those examples in the CPL threads though. I prefer to shoot on overcast days. But you don't always have that option. So I like to have a faster aperture option with me at all times and I like to have a CPL option. I was trying to get a CPL for the Tamron 600, but I stopped, due to cost and because it probably wasn't going to be worth it IQ wise since filters don't play nice on super telephotos.

I also always roll with a wide angle, so the EOS-M with 22 F2 is my side kick.

My general walk around wildlife setup (I use a backpack):

1D2 + Tamron 150-600
APS-C (650D) + 200 F2.8L (with option for CPL) + Kenko 2.0x TC (in case I want to extend to 400 F5.6, still sharp wide open and still fast)
EOS-M + 22 F2

Very best,
