Another couple of excellent portraits Dom, #1 could almost be out of 'Blade Runner' (if you changed the hair colour of course)

Took a wander along Davy Downs this morning up as far as the M25 / A13 interchange, not expecting much to be honest when we came across this bird of prey trying to catch the blue tits that were hopping around it - almost teasing it. best way I can describe it's size is that of a meerkat i.e around 12" tall. Help with the ID would be good thanks

David, I believe this is a female Sparrowhawk. Im surprised the little birds were hanging around so close to it, they would normally lie low.

Thanks Linda, has also been suggested a Juvenile Sparrow Hawk - either way I'm chuffed to have seen it. It was literally barging it's way around the smaller bushes with four / five blue tits shouting at it and keeping just out the way, all new to me!

@dom - nice to see what to me is a continuing very strong style coming out. These most recent 2 have a good commercial look to them :)

@david - lovely set and I do like to see raptors in the wild :). Do tell.....what body & lens combo on these? (Doh!! senior moment.... f2.8 300mm I note ;) but what body? )

Also re location ~ those bridges intersection, I drive that junction when I go to Basildon office so nice to see what 'lives' down there. But boy wasn't it flooded so badly those couple of years back.

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Thank you kindly.
You can see the map of it HERE (external link) You actually go under the viaduct and walk around 2.5k to the motorway bridges. When your stuck in traffic going onto the M25 or coming off and you look down you can indeed see a 'usually' flooded area with lots of horses - thats the end where we saw the hawk. We also saw (and totally failed to get shots of) a king fisher, herons, ducks, geese as well as loads of long tailed tits / blue tits / chaffinch (the red faced one?) squirrels.

.DAVID.

PS - edit - body is the 1DX which I am still getting to grips with, settings etc. pretty happy with it so far, is it better than the 5DmkIII and 1DmkIV I traded in for it - we will see when the racing season starts.

@david - thanks for the insight ref Davydown, it is sometimes amazing what is under our noses in such a built up world!!! Re 1DX, I can but dream. For now my 5D3 is my go to as have not touched the 7D for way too long.....must give it an airing again soon?

FWIW the 7D2 looks very good and given time would IMO make a good compliment to the 5D3

Anyone want to buy a mint condition (apart from the usual scuffs by/on the hood and the tripod foot) 100-400mm as the Mk2 beckons to me :D

All of them are a great set of pics but #3 with the piano is exceptionally good, so unique.

+1 especially in regard to the piano image though I think it is an organ of some type :)

PS I have something similar of a young church organist playing....... But yours with the cobwebs has a lovely stylised look.

Thanks guys, the organ does have a service/repair phone number on it but I think it's well past that now :)
