Challenge #519 - Break The Rules!

Great entries by all :-) I had a real challenge in sorting these all out!

The entries are as follows:

Maureen Souza: “No Eye Contact” --- Great color and out of bounds composition. If pig snouts are your thing…then this is the photo!

Car: “Focus, focus, focus” --- A little overdone on the bokah is this one :-)

Turmper: “Rules of Destruction” --- Well done (no pun intended :-)) photo of a bonfire. Great capture of the colors in the flames.

rpolitsr: “orange juice” --- Beautiful example of the fact that angles and lines are not required for a great photo!

teekay: “Rules of Tenths?” --- Great example of using angles to make a great photo. I love the color and the “eye” contact kept drawing me to that corner of the photo.

OhLook: “Avoid symmetry in landscapes” --- I couldn’t get my eyes out of the center of the photo!

Spoco57: “Avoid the Center” --- Great photo with great color! I would have loved to see this bird shot from the front!

And the winners are:

1st Place: teekay: “Rules of Tenths?”
2nd Place: rpolitsr: “orange juice”
3rd Place: Maureen Souza: “No Eye Contact”

Now on to you teekay for our next challenge!

Results are now posted in the original posting. Thanks again to all for playing. You have proved that you can be "Out of Bounds" and still produce great photos :-)

P-47 at the Rochester Airshow this summer. The sound was tremendous!

Congrats to the podium crew! Teekay, Rafael and Maureen. Thanks for hosting, Jim!

Thanks for the #1 spot! I really thought I was going to lose out to Maureens' pig or Rafael's OJ, but I guess I'm stuck with the next challenge, which I'll post ASAP.

Congratulations teekay and Maureen for the extreme transgressions of the rules. :)
In the other entries, all the broken rules produced interesting images that I enjoyed.

Jim you were brave to choose that theme! Nice challenge and well done. Thank you for the second place.

For my granddaughter photo, it was a 'now or never' situation. She was concentrated in her orange juice when suddenly rose her head to look at me standing right above her neck. A second or two to aim the camera, wait for the focus beep and press the shutter all the way. It was a 'blind' shot because I was using the electronic viewfinder (not the LCD) and the camera was almost at waist level. The slow focus of the Pro1 worked well and, with a bit of luck, I got that framing/composition right in the camera, no crop of any kind. Ah! and I was using only the right hand :)

The exposure, white balance etc. was another history. I used all the tone sliders in LightRoom to compensate for the glare of the mask that pulled the overall exposure down.

It was Dec 30, we were touring the preparation for the new year's eve bonfires where dolls stuffed of paper are burned and many people wear masks/costumes.

Congrats to Teekay & Rafael. It feels good to jump back in; I thought I would finally have a couple of weeks of free time but then our first granddaughter showed up almost 2 weeks early.
