Here is the medium Profoto pancake lantern as key light. Usually, I have it serving as overhead fill or hair light, and usually with the black skirt. For this shot, the modifier is low and close, with stray light serving to generate some area fill:

Joey,

How large is your ring light? I built mine on the smaller side, wishing I had made it a bit larger to spread the light out a bit more.

Rico, have you used round lanterns? I'm wondering if there's any difference in the light output and pattern versus the 'pointy' one you have t here.

I have not used a standard globe-shaped lantern but, based on its shape, expect it throws light uniformly in all directions except straight up. The pancake design gives more downward coverage and, most importantly, has a skirt that can fully block light going sideways. Profoto doesn't make a globe, but Chimera's skirt leaves half the globe uncovered—not at all what I wanted.

Thanks, mine is 24" at the outside edge, so I may have to rework it. Your setup def seems to be better for portraits. Great shots!
