16 years ago I visited Alaska, and watched many bald eagles soaring and fishing.
A week ago I drove through a local lake area hoping to photograph a heron or two, I was suddenly awed by the sight of a bald eagle overhead!!
They're not all that unusual in this area, but I had never seen one here. I was sooo excited I almost forgot to put my car in park before hopping out :-D

Well done, Janet, you got him! I had to chuckle as the transmission in my truck has had its workouts being wrenched suddenly into Park for shots like that ;)

THANK YOU EACH SO MUCH!! Thank you for liking my shots and for understanding my enthusiasm for photographing the eagle and the pure pleasure of watching it soar! Several of you offered helpful advice and encouragement several months ago when I first began working on BIF because of the red-tailed hawks and MS Kites that were flying over my property. Because of those great suggestions and the opportunity to practice them, I had fair success with the Bald Eagle. THANK YOU!!

Ian, I laughed at your description of your poor truck's transmission. Many bird and wildlife photographers can probably relate with our experiences.

Phil, I'm happy for your recent experience, too! It's a wonderful feeling that hangs on for awhile.

Happy birding everyone!!

I've photographed my fair share of eagles and I'm still in awe watching them soar overhead. There's just something about them that demands your attention. Congratulations on photographing your first one after such a long wait and I hope there are more in your future.
