Big stopper is a neutral density filter that reduces the amount of light that passes through the filter by about 9 or 10 stops. It allows you to take long exposures during the day allowing for cloud or water or motion blur. If you were to use one on this photo, the water would have become silky smooth and the clouds would have been "smeared" across the sky showing their path of movement. I've taken images during sunset that were up to 5 and 6 minute long exposures. Really fun to use.
