howdy folks.

gimme some of the background on this thread, yeah i've seen the first post and clicked on a couple previous threads, but i want the real details, the low down, the dirt, the scoop, the skinny, the 411.

this thread used to be the most active thread on the board, on an average night they used to post hundreds of posts to the dismay of the mods who used to police them, only a handful of originals left now, most were on the other side of the world and used to post food shots during the day which was 2AM to us, topics are anything but traffic has slowed down so much even Jon doesn't visit us anymore

howdy folks.

wife and kids are out for the night so i thought i'd dip my toes in the 2am thread for the first time. I will probably be up late listening to loud music and maybe even organizing some of the backlog of pics i have sitting here on various cards.

gimme some of the background on this thread, yeah i've seen the first post and clicked on a couple previous threads, but i want the real details, the low down, the dirt, the scoop, the skinny, the 411. Who should i avoid? Who posts the most? Who drinks the most? any romance going on between POTNer's? :p

also, cool pic, FJ, guessing that's not your feed?

Who to avoid? Same as everywhere else on POTN - Chet!

You've been (mostly) behaving yourselves and refraining from saying excessively stupid things (well, except for Omar's delusion that Sony gear will last for the long haul, not require repair or replacement every year or two), so I haven't needed to chip in to straighten you out.

let me call you a waaahmbulance.

you don't even have the snow we do with the cold :D

I stood outside yesterday for 4 hours shooting eagles. It was about 8 degrees but felt like 20 below with the wind at my face. I had little icicles coming down from my eye lashes. When I got home I realized my camera was in AF-S instead of AF-C mode. I got only the first pic in every sequence in focus. :(

The top part of my face was the only thing uncovered. I did take some warm-up breaks in the car.

Better, it's a Nikon. ;)

In all seriousness I've never had an issue with a camera in the cold. Last year was the coldest I have ever shot in and didn't have any hardware issues.

In my line of work, it's not unusual to be using 10+ year old PC's. Instruments that are controlled by PC are generally sold or leased as a bundle. In most cases, the lessor will not allow upgrading of the PC and will instead insist that the entire instrument/PC bundle be updated. Since most of the instruments cost anywhere from 50K to upwards of 150K, I've been stuck using PC's running Windows 95 or NT 4.0 at some of the companies I've worked for.

That's awesome. If I could get one like that, in a year, I'd be happy.

you need to have your model turn the other side so its wings doesn't cast a shadow on it's face. either that or fill that shadow with flash.

;p

nice shot.
