Last year my 1D3 would not turn on. Out of warrantee it went to Canon service. They cleaned it, adjusted it and replaced the power switch. Total cost $0. That made me a huge Canon Service supporter. I'm now a Canon CPS member.

I don't remember the exact numbers but:

$135 to fix the autofocus on my 17-85, which was out of warranty. The lens failed again for the same reason, which is why I now own a 15-85.

$130 to fix the flip-down wide-angle panel on my 550EX flash.

$0 to fix the shutter on my Digital Rebel 300D, as I had bought an extended warranty for $99.

Canon 80D, 60D, Canon 10-22EFs, 15-85EFS IS, Sigma 100-400, Sigma 135/1.8ART, Sigma 30mm f/1.4DC, Canon 60mm EFs Macro, Rokinon 8mm fisheye, 550EX flash, Olympus TG6 underwater P&S

I had a 10-18mm/7D in my pack and crashed on my mountain bike. Snapped the lens mount: $142 and about two weeks. Lens has been great ever since.

£75 for replacing the rubber seal on my 70-200 2.8 II do $115. I eventually found a store in the uk who sold the seals for £25 so I used them for the last lens the 24-70 that had a broken seal too.

8 year old Canon EF-S 17-55 failing to auto focus past 30 MM or so (hunted endlessly on 7D & 40D. $219 with a comment from repair that there was dust in the optical assembly which was removed, and auto focus was re-calibrated to factory standards. The repair was successful, and as first experience with Canon service, I'm a satisfied customer.

Regards,
Steve

My 70-200 f2.8 IS II has been a absolutely stunning lens. I have used it for everything from sports to birding with fantastic results. When I first upgraded from 7D to 7D II the lens required NO micro adjust. It was perfect. Suddenly about 2 weeks ago the photos got very soft. Out of focus actually. I tried to micro adjust it, but no setting worked. So I sent it to Canon, the Virginia center.

They mailed me with the estimate of the cost, $311. I called to ask what they found wrong. They said they had not and would not get into the lens until I paid them in advance. The lens is about 2 years old (or more) so it was out of warranty. I have always thought Canon should come, at least, closer to Tamrom and Sigma with the 5 year warranties.

I paid them with a credit card and today they sent the lens back after fixing. Will receive it next week. I will EDIT this post to report if the lens was actually fixed.

I have never dropped or jarred this lens, and it has never been wet. I am very disappointed that a $2400 lens did this in so short a period of time. My thought is a lens of this cost and quality should last over 10 years unless you damage it or get it wet.

40D that I've bought used on CL developed shutter problems. Irvine service center replaced the shutter for $0.00.
Even though it was a courtesy repair with no warranty an issue with the sensor cleaning mode developed. Repair cost - $0.00.
I could not nave been more happier with Irvine service center.

I had the main dial on my 60D replaced. Cost $239.00. When it came back, it just had the part number listed, not what failed or what action they took. Probably a quick remove and replace. Same experience as everyone else. They need a cc number before they will even get into the repair.

$179 + shipping to fix a focus issue with my 135L. Took about a week to ship it to them, fix it and ship it back, excellent service in my opinion.
