Good captures. As for blurrs and empty frames, also couple of my specialities.

Very nice, do you use the 500 hand held or on a tripod/gimble?

Where do you shoot in Perth?

Cheers
Gus

Hey gus, I generally use the 500 HH, having been shooting much lately, but this was shot at Wellard this morning.

Had it out yesterday with the 70-300L on it in the snow taking pictures of the kids (and the neighbors) sledding off of our driveway down the hill. Performed like a champ, locked in focus and tracked everyone well at full burst, very few missed shots with people accelerating and decelerating quickly with light snow still falling. Quite pleased.

Which kinda brings me to my next point...I am debating selling my 17-55, I just don't feel it is mating well with the 7D2, and it isn't sealed. What should I look at in the L line that would be similar? I can't find anything that is a direct replacement really so I am looking for some thoughts.

did you use a flash on these great pics?

Yes, 2x2 600EX about 10 meters behind me, 6 meters high, 2 flashes 5 meters left and 2 flashes 5 meters right (in the grandstand), 1-1 ProPac PB960 external accu. You can clearly see the shadows in the picture #1. Flash settings: 35 mm, E-TTL, one group.

Not mating well?? What specifically isn't good about the 17-55mm on the 7D2?

Being sealed is IMO overrated.

There are no EF-S L lenses, so maybe you should look at full frame, like a 5D3 and 24-105mm.

Sony RX10 IV, Canon 7D2, Canon 77D, assorted Canon lenses

16-35 2.8L if you need the width, or 24-70 2.8L if you need the reach. Used 24-70L v1's are selling for cheap right now.

You could probably sell your 70D (assuming you don't use it anymore now that you have a 7D2) along with your 17-55 2.8 and fund either of them.

So the 500 is hand holdable then, nice. Is that the reason for selling the 400 2.8?
I haven't looked as far south as Wellard, is it a good spot or were you just passing through?

Cheers
Gus
