Hi All,

I'm new to the Sony A7 and its my first FF camera and I also own the HVL-F43M flash. I'm having difficulties finding a wireless flash option that works with the A7 and 43M? I have some older Cowboy studio trigger/receivers, but they don't seem to 'pair' [for lack of a better term] with Sony's Multi Interface Hot Shoe. Does anyone know of a wireless flash solution that wont break the bank [as I have already done that!!!] and / or add an additional flash [I.e. HVL-F20M] to trigger the 43M?

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to all!!

Brian

If you're just looking for manual wireless flash operation, I can confirm that these little guys do the trick.

No problem ;)

Also, mine are the Nikon version which I must've ordered by accident, but they still work perfectly.

It's my understanding that the Sony cameras can use any flash from any manufacturer as long as you're doing manual control.

UPDATE: Wireless trigger received, but does not seem to work on the A7 & HVL-F43M flash. I did read and see on youtube, some have to cut away a small piece of the trigger in order to get the firing pins to line up. Is this a mod that you had to make @EveryDayGetaway? or did it work right out of the box? Also, are you using the same set up [flash & Camera?]. I'll play around with it this weekend, possibly make the mod?

thanks all for the comments and suggestions!

Best,

B-

No mods made to mine at all. I did have to flip the little switches on the inside of the receiver to make it work, but that was it. Transmitter on camera body, receiver on flash (YN-560iii) and it works perfectly... not sure what's going on with yours, sorry.

I remember buying the Pocketwizard FlexTT5 and MiniTT1 for my Canon 550D/T2i a couple of years ago. I wasn't happy that I couldn't change the flash power output in manual mode wirelessly on the MiniTT1 without buying the AC3 ZoneController, so I switched to the Phottix Odin triggers which was a very nice system to use with my Canon 550D/T2i. However, I've never sold my Pocketwizard FlexTT5 and MiniTT1 and I'm glad I didn't since I plan on buying an A7II or A9 and the tiny form factor of the MiniTT1 just seems perfect for a small mirrorless camera like the A7II or A9. :-P

I use a combination of the pocketwizard plus ii's and phottix atlas for the remote speedlites, the atlas triggers don't work on hvlf60 and I didn't want to cut them so I ended up buying some yongnuo's for the remote stuff which works a treat and then they are still on the same frequency as my Sekonic light meter. But browsing YouTube the other day has some good videos of the phottix Odin and Mitros combinations and then you pick up powercontrol of your remotes if that's what you need.

I use Phottix system: 1 Odin, 2 Odin receivers, 3 Phottix Mitros+ for sony, 2 Flashpoint Rovelight RL600 strobes(with phottix odin receivers before mentioned). Best setup I've used. And that's coming from Canon system.

I've been testing and started using the Godox (Adorama, Cheetah Light) X system.
Its comprehensive' ranging from speedlites to 600Ws battery powered monolights with TTL and HSS.
HERE (external link) is the first of 7 pages of evaluation I posted on my website.
The last 5 days have included several production shoots with the lights. I'm planning to update the pages with what I've learned during the shoots.
