We had the Avalon Airshow this past weekend and I have to say the lens performed a treat.

I managed to work around the less than ideal lighting the mostly cloudy weather provided, and here are just four of many.

Manage to shoot the moon with 1.4x III and 2x III = 1120mm :D despite the EXIF only show 560mm ;)

Somewhat the AF actually work with double extender :-D And I can see the moon keep moving toward the left during the shooting.

How did you stack the 1.4 and 2x version 3? I thought they were no stackable?

True. I would have to use a hammer to stack them.... ;-)a I reckon one of the two he was using is not a Canon.

Cheers.

:-P:-P:-P That was not that difficulty.

Bryan Carnathan did the same thing with his 600L II "http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-600mm-f-4-L-IS-II-USM-Lens-Review.aspx"

"Stacking a Canon EF 1.4x Extender with a Canon EF 2x Extender requires a 12mm extension tube to be mounted between the two – to make the fit possible. The result is 600mm x 2 x 1.4 = 1680mm."

BTW shooting the moon with above set-up, the view finder was just simply BLACK, so used live view then :-)

Oooh, neat idea - I'd never have thought of it myself. Must give it a try.

One more thing, you may try with Mode 1 Image Stabilize during manual focus - I used Mode 3, which was rather useless

I'll probably use a tripod. That's a great moon shot!

A tripod is a must, and remove shutter cable also needed - soon you will notice significant movement even with focusing.

I didn't need mirror luck-up as Bryan - I set ISO to 400, and my shutter speed was around 1/100s or 1/150s.

Have fun :-)

Wonderful lens - bought it last Tuesday and put it to use at the weekend at the Australian air show at Avalon. Here are 2 from the Friday night session...
