Excellent collection.

How was the AF performance wit the Sigma?
Any likes or dislikes about the lens?

A great set, looks like you were lucky with the blue skies too!

My favourites are the C-17 landing, the Super Hornet and the ARH Tiger – great shots.:-)

Cheers

Excellent collection.

Any likes or dislikes about the lens?

The AF is superb.. If I keep the shutter above 1/800th, The AF gets about a 90-95% keeper rate, even on really fast moving stuff.. there's no hunting, it just locks on and stays locked.. Cannot complain at all.. That said, to get propeller blur, i get about a 50% keeper rate @ 1/320th.. and 1/10 @ 1/200th.. (at 600mm).. I realise it could well be my technique, but I had a guy standing next to me who was doing 1/160th on the new canon 100-400 II @ 400mm and his keeper rate was good.. you have to remember tho, it is a fairly heavy lens, it's physically long and trying to manage to keep everything dialled in is a task in itself..

I have noticed tho that now i've used it a whole lot more, the extending lens was quite stiff, is now loose.. So much so, that i have to either physically hold the barrel in place to keep it at a certain focal length, or I have to use the lock, otherwise gravity takes over.. Love the build quality.. it's taken a couple of small direct hits with no noticable marks, but you do have to be careful as resting it on anything can cause the paint to leave a very slight mark that doesn't rub out..

Overall tho, very very happy with the lens, and these are the best images I've ever taken of an airshow.. For $1900 AUD, it's an absolute steal..

Here's some more from Friday's show..

Looking good there aok :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Here's some of mine but i've only really looked at the shots I remember.. so there's a ton more.. lol

wow very cool. Where was this held.

Might have to come over one day but then I would need to buy a lens longer than 105mm :)

Great shots! I was there too - we can't have been located too far from each other as we have a lot of similar pics. Was a big weekend for me - Tues & Wed lurking around the boundary of Avalon, Friday & Sunday attending, and Monday again lurking watching departures.

You have some excellent shots there. The full album is worth the time it takes to explore. Is that Melissa Pemberton & her husband in #1 ? I saw somewhere they are doing an act like that.

Great pics. Is this the Sigma "Sport" or the "Contemporary" model of the 150-600mm ?

Held at Avalon in Victoria (just outside of Geelong).. And yes, if you want to take pics of planes in flight, 105mm won't get you far at all.. hehe

Yeah.. I saw your shots on Whingepool.. I noticed yours were also very similar, and you must've had the same ideas as me, composition wise.. I'm in Laverton, so not that far from Avalon, but CBF hanging around for hours waiting for something to happen.. I was going to to friday, sat & sun, but by the time sat morning came around, and getting 5 hours sleep, the weather outside nailed my decision not to go.. that said, sunday was awesome.. lots of blue skies and it being a bit cool help..

Bingo.. yes it was rex & melissa pemberton.. it's such a shame tho because on the ground you literally can't see rex at all, so all you see is melissa doing circles.. at least with a long lense you can get a sense of what's really going on up there..

It's the Sports model, I don't think the C has really been released yet.. well, not in any sort of numbers..

I have some WW1 aircraft that i'm currently processing, so will post up some more pics later on..
