Best eagle spotting on the West Coast?

Because of some nice suggestions on this thread, last week I went up to Lower Klamath, near the border of CA and OR. It's about 5 hrs from Sacramento. We saw over 25 eagles! But it's really hit or miss. If you go try to find a field they recently flooded. That's where we saw most of them. Here's 2 pics I took...

If you're ever up in WA in December/January, East of Bellingham there are between 100 and 200 eagles that come to fish the dead fish in the river. I had lots of luck there this year and have several shots on my flickr from that trip.

I was all over the valley west and south of Gardnerville. The eagles are typically in the area between Genoa Lane and Mottsville Lane. I finally found eagles nesting in trees on the southside of Genoa Lane east of the Carson River but they were too far away for me and I use an EF 800mm f5.6 prime lens for wildlife. Very little out there that has longer reach and clarity than that lens but I might have been able to get a few shots if I had a crop body (only have full frames). Time to move on to something else and hope they return next year.

Thanks for the info Snowblower! Im going to definitely keep a heads up next winter and plan on a drive up to that area. Thanks again for giving some specific areas to concentrate my search!

Go figure....I just returned from a brief overnighter to LKNWR on Thursday....It was almost like Summer....really Spring-like.
Despite the warm weather, there were more Eagles there than I have seen in five years of visiting....Some Sandhill Cranes, tons of Geese and Ducks......

Fantastic shots! What's the easiest way to see the EXIF? Also, what lens/body did you use? Great job.

Usually the exif info is available on an extension to your browser...

I usually use FIREFOX, and if you google 'exif info in Firefox' you should get a link to download it. I just right click on the pic and it will show in a separate window.....if the poster didn't strip the info when they posted.

Other browsers have it as well....same MO.

Yes, in Nevada south of Carson City.

I know this is an old thread, but about a year ago I learned from member 'Snowblower' in this thread, about the Carson Valley area for Bald Eagles. Well based on his advice of being a lackluster year last year I decided not to head up there as im over 7 hours away in So cal.

Well its been a year and im heading up there next week to look for Eagles! Ill post any pics I can of what I find up there.

Snowblower, how is Carson Valley this year? Have you been out looking for Eagles? Are they there in larger numbers this year?

Well, just thought id revive an old thread about finding eagles on the west coast. This thread has a ton of great info in it!

Sorry, I just saw your post this evening. Don't waste your time coming to Carson Valley this year if you haven't come already. I've been out three times recently and only saw a few eagles. They were so far away I didn't bother attempting to shoot them and my primary lens is a 800mm Canon prime. I made a trip just south of Klamath Falls Oregon (google "Tule Lake" near the Cal-Ore border) and have seen dozens there. If you really want eagle shots I would go there and go soon. Only area I have seen more eagles then at Tule Lake area is in Alaska. Hope you didn't make the trip up here for nothing.....

If you want to see hundreds of them, maybe a trip up to BC is the answer.
