I ordered mine on Monday and it just came an hour ago. Looks fat compared to my Sigma 12-24 II and 16-35L.

QUOTED IMAGE

Its like the 85L of the wideangle lenses :D

Those are wonderful Steve. 11mm can be really cool. Next you need a 5Ds R. :D

I almost want to get this lens for the sheer AWE factor... besides its awesome optical performance, it just looks so damn good on the body. Not since the 85L have I seen a lens so impressive on the camera... (not including tele's). can't wait for you guys to do some more reviews on the lens :)

David, thanks! I am passing on the 5DsR though... Waiting for the next 5D3 replacement instead :-D I would personally have better low light performance (higher ISO ability) than more resolution at this point. I am jealous of the lack of AA filter, but I did notice on my 11mm city shot there was moiré all over the sky scrapers... Although it is rare I shoot such things, so I think I would be ok!

it is big ---

that's what she said.

imagine if they did make it 2.8--it would be bigger than 2 of your camera bodies combined.

ha ha yup

and yeah, now that we see how big it is at f4 and how expensive it is, just guessing... it would be 2x as big if 2.8 and cost 4x more, so you'd be looking at a monstrosity costing $10k+. i mean just compare the size and cost difference between the 300 f4 and the 300 f2.8.

well, anyway, just had to say that for all those people whining about not having 2.8 to compete with nikon's. we still got the 16-35 2.8 after all, and though people whine about its sharpness in corners, i did a focus stacked landscape with one at f8 and it was superbly sharp (though admittedly without such extreme efforts yeah the corners would suffer.)

David. this is a massive specialty lens which in the right hands will be a powerful creative tool. I came to the same conclusion and bought a 14L II and will be keeping the 16-35l f4 IS. of course I will rent the 11-24 at some point but I think 14mm will work well for me.

Thanks Helen for the insight. Hard to believe, as at least here in Cleveland anytime I stop by FedEx/UPS they ask for photo ID, verify who I am and then take my I.D. to the back to match the name to the package before I can sign for it. Never have I been able to collect a package based off a verbal "this is who I am" alone.

If I place an order in the future with Adorama, if I call in can I request this hold be lifted? Or is that standard procedure now for anything shipped of value?

As per our website: http://www.adorama.com/help/shippingAndDelivery (external link) Will I have to sign for my package?

"A signature is required for most UPS shipments upon receipt. Someone must be at the address to receive the package and sign for it. Packages cannot be rerouted or picked up from UPS. If you require additional help to receive your package, please contact us: http://www.adorama.com/help/contactus"

Once your first delivery attempt has failed, you should be able to call UPS and have them hold your package for you to pick up. I have done this with several orders from Adorama that arrived when no one was home to sign for the package. The UPS depot is about 15 minutes from my house (FedEx is a lot farther away). I could pick up the package the same day after 7:30pm. Now, I just have the item shipped to work and our receptionist signs for the package.

Yesterday I saw that this comparison was available. I was very impressed with the Canon, and it seems to me that it bests the Nikon in the 14-24mm range. So I was surprised when I saw this recent comparison at lenrentals (http://www.lensrentals.com …-f4-vs-nikon-14-24mm-f2-8 (external link)) lean towards the Nikon. I guess I'll have to wait for the reviews to show up at PhotoZone and LensTip too.

Wait for what purpose? Are you trying to decide between the two and need Photozone or Lenstip to sway you one way or the other? Even if it is just in the same ballpark, sharpness-wise, the 11-24 would still be the overall winner. The 14-24 flares way worse and has more distortion. And the 14-24 really sucks at 11-13.9mm. ;)
