Call me crazy, weird, or w/e; but I love hearing the AF motor on my lenses and the sound of the shutter. It's like my camera is alive and responding to me! Sure, you may need a quiet motor for certain events, but it's something about that smooth sound my lens makes when it quickly achieves focus. Not that clanky, jerking sound like some lenses can make when focus hunting; but that fast, smooth, accurate sound of a precise AF system. I have some STM lenses and have used a USM lens, but I still prefer the sound of a AF motor, specifically the Sigma HSM.

Anyone else have a particular lens, camera, or any other camera gear that they just love the sound of? Or am I the only "crazy" one here?

I like the shutter sound of my 5DIII in Silent Mode. Sounds richer (not monetarily speaking). I hate the way my 40D sounds.

I like the sounds and feel of my older film cameras -- Canon AE-1, Pentax K1000, Yashica Electro 35 GSN. The shutter, the manual film advance lever, just the overall weight and feel of the bodies ..... love it.
Occasionally I'll sit there before I load film in and fire the shutter several times and move the film advance lever just for the coolness of it. While my wife laughs at me. ;)

Nikon F2 with MD-2 motor drive attached going off at full tilt. Nothing quite like it. The loudest shutter sound I've experienced was my old Pentax 6x7.

What a bunch of weirdos... ;-)a

Funny you bring this up - my family and I was watching a video taken with our camcorder from a recent vacation, and at one point you can hear my camera shutter going off multiple times and I thought to myself, "that sound is kind of cool".

I guess I've kind of tuned it out when using the camera and hearing it through the video reminded me of when I first started using an slr and how awesome I thought the shutter sound was.

It does sound crazy, but when I switched over to the dark side for a few months, I REALLY liked the crisp *clack* sound of the D700 shutter. The Canon bodies seem to have a *ker-chunk* sound that seems heavier.

I am another weirdo that prefers the sound, or limited sound, of the shutter on my 6D on the silent shutter mode. The regular mode is ok, but the softened sound of the silent shutter is kind of cool.
