[QUOTE=peteg1;17476310]Well I never knew of this issue with mine but with the bright sun on my white Xterra it wouldn't focus, just had to drop down a little to the top of my tire and it was fine. I would say 7 of 10 times it would not focus on very sunlit white.

Not surprising since there's no contrast there for it to work with.

The Kenko's are good. I've never used the Sigma.

Finally got around to stacking some images of the Orion nebula with the tamron. 20, one minute exposures with a skytracker.

Wow. Really nice.

Wow. Really nice.

I was thinking the same thing. Didn't know the Tammy would perform so well with the Nubula. Great results!

Heya,

I use Kenko PRO 300 DGX series. I use the 2.0x with my Tamron 150-600. I've posted quite a few moons in this thread if you care to search them. It's pretty sharp, I stop down 1 stop from wide open even with the TC on and with Live View, still get plenty good detail. The 1.4x will also do well, I'd still stop down 1 stop. I do that even with no TC anyways because it sharpens up nicely. On a good sturdy support, the low shutter from aperture loss (for moon anyways) isn't an issue.

Very best,

True, as I noted in my post too. However, how do you explain the 7DII successfully auto focusing on the same area every time it was tested? While it is definitely a low (or no) contrast area, there may be dirt on the side of his car which we cannot see in Pete's test images since the white areas are washed out in his photos.
If there is absolutely no contrast there, and just plain white, freshly washed car, then all cameras, including the 7DII, should have failed that test. But it didn't.

Heya,

Ran to the West coast of Florida this morning to see some birds and local wildlife before heading to work tonight. ASP-C + Tamron @ 600mm.

Haven't looked in here for a while, nice shots all :)

I just had a walk lunchtime, had to get out of the house. I had to go out and use my new (to me) 1D4 so some snaps of the local wildlife down by the canal. I was playing around with AF modes so had some inconsistent results with the Tamron 150-600, quite easily user error as well!

First of all the obligatory duck photos with new gear :D (missed focus on the first, or something, not sure)

The Swan family were out and about.

I did then try for a few BiF but nothing was around in range. Then walking back home I spied this little fella in the trees by our house:

Aaaargh, I was still in TV mode for Bif, so I quickly changed before he moved off as ISO 10000 as above is a bit high! I was too slow though! :D

I had a Kenko DG Pro-300 and I thought it was pretty good, ...until I got a Sigma APO EX DG 1.4x TC. Granted, I used it with Sigma lenses (70-200 2.8 OS, and 120-300 2.8 OS).
The Sigma is visibly sharper with better contrast. I sold the Kenko.

Plus, the Sigma does fit the Tamron 150-600 too (so does the Kenko but a Canon won't)

I also had a Sigma 2x APO EX DG tc and it was sharper than two copies of Canon's expensive 2x III tc. Since I sold my big Sigma lens, I sold the 2x TC too. But I kept the 1.4x tc for occasional shots with my Tamron, like this one (using a 70D):

Nice shot! For the price of the Sigma, it should be better than the Kenko (it's almost 2x the price). I guess I'll have to stick with my Kenkos for now...

Bought my Sigma mint shaped used for $175 I think a couple years ago. It could also be copy variation.
