I like the pose and the atmosphere. Kind of strange to say about a squirrel pic, but oh well. :-P

That is absolutely hilarious, Dave!

John,

I really like the cool bluish color of the distant background, as well as the branches in front of the squirrel. I know, we're not supposed to like twigs and branches blocking our subject, but in this case, they are distributed in a nice even manner, and actually serve to show us more about the thickly vegetated environment that the squirrel lives in.

Thanks, Tom. I've learned a lot from this forum, this shot is a good example of the value of back button focus and picking the menu option to limit the lens' attempt to hunt if it loses focus. More often than not, the birds and wildlife take advantage of cover and the intervening brush plays havoc with autofocus. I actually heard the squirrel chewing on the nut well before I spotted him visually. It took a bit of weaving and dodging to compose the shot with a clear view to the squirrel's eye, and I was pleased that his pelage also came out sharp in contrast to the soft blur of the foreground branches. The blue background is the sky on one of those nice days with the sun behind me, and there was snow on the ground (as there has been constantly since November!). John
