Not shooting this weekend (well, not a concert, anyway), but I'm shooting Sarah McLachlan (aka: the next ex-Mrs. Road Dog) on Wednesday...

Got a late photo pass on Friday for Wilko Johnson. Great gig and I got some nice shots. Taking a few days off then have Universal Thee on Friday and Alias Kid and The Beat Movement on Saturday. Also landed a photo job with a promotions/record company to cover Glasgow and Edinburgh so I'm going to be busy for the next few months :)

Been busy managing a band instead of doing pictures but I'm covering Hurricane#1 in Glasgow on 24th.

Ricky Martin last night, always entertaining to show up with a stool & long lens to see that you're the only person who read the email properly.

Getty and the national newspaper had theirs delivered, everyone else just whinged at the promoter for not being clearer.

The email said "front of house", at the usual venue for giant acts like this, where else did they think FOH was going to be?

I have been to enough gigs to know FOH means sound desk, nowhere near the front of anything, but the word "front" may be confusing for those who havent been shooting many gigs.

I always ring the promoter for clarification (and to ensure my name is on the list, as i regularly get forgotten) and if its a new venue i havent shot before, ask the distance from stage to where we will be

I think my favorite mistake was going to shoot Avicii
Didnt read the brief, just grabbed the 400 and headed off.
Got to the arena and the other photogs laughed at me.
Got into the pit, and avicii starts 20 mins late, and all we can see over his decks/desk is the very top of his hat.
Cue 15 photographers all begging to be escorted to the sound desk, none with a long lens (except me)

At the two venues I regularly shoot at, "FOH" means in front of the stage; the pit. If we're going to be shooting from the soundboard, it clearly states that.

And I've shot more than my fair share of gigs...

I'm shooting Alan Jackson on Friday and Jefferson Starship on Saturday. I'm pretty sure there's only one original member of Jefferson Starship left...

I worked as a sound engineer and entertainment professional for 15 years, FOH is the common term for the sound desk at "Front Of House" or to take it one step further, the lobby is also considered, Front Of House as well. I personally wouldn't go to the stage if someone told me to go to FOH. If someone told me to go to "the rail" that would mean "the pit".

This is a packed weekend of shooting:

Friday - Steel Panther

Saturday - Jeff Beck / ZZ Top

Sunday - Lisa Loeb

I'll probably need an adrenaline shot to the heart to get through that Lisa Loeb show...
