6d +24-105l is better. Had both combos. Even though the L is only f/4 it will have similar or thinner depth of field on the 6d than the 17-55 2.8 on a crop. FF vs crop at similar focal lengths has about 1 1/3 stops diff in DoF. Plus the focal range is better too. Nicer portraits, wider landscapes. Also, the 6d is well more than a stop (close to 2) better at high isos than the 60d, so that more than makes up for the 1 stop smaller aperture. Buy it, do it, you won't regret it. I never hesitate to use mine wide open.

I'm a little worried about the Auto focusing on the 6D vs what the 5D Mark III or Nikon can do. Is it likely that Canon will release an upgrade of the 6D with the AF system of the 7D Mark II this year??

I doubt it... Maybe the 7D/70D AF if Canon is feeling generous. If they feel stingy, you might get the same points all cross...

i made a post earlier today that said exactly that. If they are all cross in the same format as the current body that would be fine with me. Might be nice if the ones on the left and right split and became two on the left and two on the right.

not that i plan to upgrade, but in a few years i would probably pick one up used.

i think there is only a 30-40 percent chance they intro a new 6D this year. I expect the new 5D IV this fall and then the 6D next spring. 6D will definitely have better AF, it's just a matter of how much better.

My first experience with STM lenses was the 40mm on a 5DII. I liked the quiet "hmm" it makes when focusing. I have been buying the cheaper STM lenses (18-55, 55-250) in anticipation of getting a Rebel 760D (T6s) at the end of April, to actually make use of the focusing features they offer on that body. I am seriously considering the 24-105mm STM to pair with my 5D11 (I never owned the 24-105mm L) to replace an 8 year old Tamron 28-75mm zoom. The f2.8 of the Tamron pretty much meant nothing to me (never shot it wide open), and the extra range would be nice.

oh, i forgot to comment on the 6D 24-105L combo. It works, nothing wrong with it even wide open, but it is not anything special.

depending on your subject matter, wide angle distortion is pretty terrible. Clears up quickly near 35mm. Good focusing.
