Great stuff there, I'm on the fence between the 24-70 and this lens but the added cost is tough to justify. Cant see the issue with the lens being one of quality of glass that's for sure.

I have been considering this lens. I just found one fellow in Craigslist that has one listed for $625 -- it is literally brand new(came with the kit). Is it possible to get warranty coverage if I were to get a copy of his receipt? Or is the whole kit registered to a single person?

It has been practically welded to my 5D II since the day I got it on the 5D II's release day. Very versatile and solid image performance. There can be barrel distortion and f2.8 would be nice, but with IS and the ISO performance of the 5D its hasn't bothered much if at all. Paul

With endorsements like this, I'm very much looking forward to mine being delivered tomorrow! I was on the fence between this and the 24-70 for what feels like forever. In the end, I felt like the zoom versatility was more important than having an extra stop. If I need bokeh, I've got a Tamron 28-75 and a 50/1.4.. surely that ought to cover it.

A couple of fellow photographers convinced me that it was worth buying and so I did. I have not regretted it. Even though it should not have been a good choice, I pressed it into service for landscapes and even sports by necessity (I was on a trip and didn't have my preferred kit) and it delivered. It's like the FF equivalent of my 17-55 for versatility, and that's high praise. Took an indoors portrait shot in low light - something you would normally use a prime for - and I wasn't expecting much, but the result was stunning! Great lens!! _______________

So far, it's risen to the challenge each and every time -- tech wizards might find minute indications that lead one to believe the lens has issues, and micro-measurements might illustrate that as well. But, it certainly performs well in the field ( and that's really what counts, right?) and I'd say any discrepancies are limited to tech measurements and not practical application. As a general walk-around lens, the 24-105 sits on my camera most of the time unless I change it out for a specific application. I like it a lot, and will never sell it. I recently added the 16-35 f4 to get the wide end a little wider in my kit, but will still carry the 24-105 on the camera most of the time. I agree when you say that you will never sell it. I feel like the money that I could get for the lens doesn't outweigh the performance or value of this lens. It also sits on my camera 80% of the time unless I need another lens for a very specific thing (150-600 for wildlife or 14mm for ultra wide). Canon 6D, & Sony α6000

I find myself using it more and more as just a general shooting lens. I love my primes but this zoom will always have a place in my bag. I have had mixed results with the 24-70 2.8 (I). but the 24 - 105 is very reliable. I just did a band shoot and used this lens almost exclusively. Very happy i made this purchase! Matthew
