edmidlifecrisis Cream of the Crop More info | Nice image, John. I see you use this lens a lot. I have ordered one from Lensrentals for Wednesday, we'll see if it likes my camera body which sometimes be an adventure in autofocusing. There are lots of birds to photograph now as they are nesting (see my flickr page) so I am anxious to try it out. Thinking about this one or maybe the Canon 400mm f5.6L prime. Ed

Apr 06, 2015 10:06 | #6501 I think you'd be happy with either. It was a tough call for me. I run my Tammy at F8 for most wildlife photos, unless I'm really hurting for light. It's pin sharp at F8, but still very good at 7.1 and 6.3. I have some images at 6.3 that are still some of my favorites. Shoot first and ask questions later.

I have some images at 6.3 that are still some of my favorites. If you go the 400 prime and add a 1.4x TC, you can still get fantastic images, but won't have the VR. This is why I think the Tammy is a better lens for bird and wildlife photographers. More than acceptable sharpness at F8 and 600mm, plus the benefit if VR. No other lens I've ever used can do this. Not for this price. Thanks for the info. My T3i can be funky with autofocus although it seems to like the 100 f2.8 Macro USM pretty well. Ed

They are both terrific lenses, but very different; I own the Tamzooka and have rented the 400/5.6. I could make a pretty good case for owning both. Gripped 7D, gripped, full-spectrum modfied T1i (500D), SX50HS, A2E film body, Tamzooka (150-600), Tamron 90mm/2.8 VC (ver 2), Tamron 18-270 VC, Canon FD 100 f/4.0 macro, Canon 24-105 f/4L,Canon EF 200 f/2.8LII, Canon 85 f/1.8, Tamron Adaptall 2 90mmf/2.5 Macro, Tokina 11-16, Canon EX-430 flash, Vivitar DF-383 flash, Astro-Tech AT6RC and Celestron NexStar 102 GT telescopes, various other semi-crappy manual lenses and stuff.

daverator My title stinks! More info Post edited over 8 years ago by daverator. | Sorry its took so long for me to report on the 7d. I've been having pc problems and the weather here hasn't been to good for photography. We got another inch of snow yesterday, more coming tonight. I've had the 7d out with the Tammy a couple times and the difference in af between it and the t3i is huge. Its fast and usually dead on 90% of the time. I'm still getting used to the 7d so making some oof shots but its mostly just me. For instance don't use expansion points for geese on rippled water! Don't get me wrong, the t3i is a great camera but its like going from a Yugo to a Vette af wise. The 7d is about the same for iso, but I was used to that with the t3i so for me, no big deal. After having the 7d for a while, I can only imagine what the mark2 is like. Much too pricey for me tho, especially since I just bought the Tammy in January. IMG_5720 The second shot was taken at 600mm in about a 10/12 mph wind hand held. Pretty big crop. I only had time for 2 shots and got 2 keepers. IMAGE LINK: https://www.flickr.com …27322443@N06/16849846170/ IMG_5763 For what I do, this 7d is a huge step up. I bought it just for the Tammy, but after using it for a while, I will probably use the 3ti just for backup. The controls are much easier to get to on the 7d and the 7d is a little meatier and easier for my hands to handle. If you couldn't tell, I'm really happy with this purchase. ![]() ![]() . Right now the price for used ones is really low for a low shutter count 7d. I got mine from a photog from WV on ebay. I couldn't tell it from new. Good look with your decision!Dave

Apr 07, 2015 09:19 | #6507 I was running a 50D before, tried the Tammy on a 1D3, and then on a 7D. There really was no contest. The 7D blew away the other two. It was an easy decision. Right now the price for used ones is really low for a low shutter count 7d Don't you just love the "me too" crowd that has to rush out and buy the latest gear. They make expensive stuff so much more affordable for the rest of us. Shoot first and ask questions later.
