Quick question. How come I am getting mass vignetting with really dark corners when using a 10 stop on my 24-105 when I see no vignetting and very nice corners on people using 16mm lenses...

What FL?
Perhaps you need a WA adapter?

Dos it happen across all apertures?

I tend to get heavy vignetting as well, regardless of my lens or settings. I typically have at least one circular filter directly on the lens (either ND or CPL) and mount a 77mm wide-angle adapter for the foundation kit to that filter.

I just accept it as part of the constraints of using the 100x100's, so I try to frame to accommodate at least 10-20% cropping and then also fix the vignette via Raw adjustments. For example, here is the SOOC raw image from the shot above (click to enlarge):

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've read the adapter and ND filter go on first.... and then grads, CPL's and other filters. I think the adapters are only made to work if they are primary.

You're completely right – that's how they're intended to work. However, I don't have a 105mm CPL and find it works just fine to mount the 77mm wide-angle adapter to the front of my 77mm CPL. I simply adjust to the proper polarization before mounting the Lee kit (via the quick-release latch on the 100mm filter mount) and try not to turn it too much in the mean time.

As you can see, I get a bit of vignetting, but it's not unworkable. The above photo was taken with, mounted in this order: 6D Body >> 16-33mm IS Lens >> 77mm CPL >> Foundation Kit via 77mm WA adapter >> 100x100mm Big Stopper >> 100x150mm Soft Grad.

I had the 77mm cpl on first. Then the lee filter kit ring screwed into the cpl then then holder with lee big stopper.

Try stacking the Stopper first. I think it will solve the issue.

The only way to stack the stopper first would be to use a 105mm CPL with an adapter or 100x100mm square polarizing filter. There's no way to use standard 77mm (or any similar size) in front of a Big/Little stopper.

does anyone use a big stopper with an 85II?

i use it with the 24II, but I may want the larger ring for the 85II... was wondering if anyone did.

That's correct.

Yup, stacking the Lee on top of a screw on will get ya.

I use the Lee square CPL on top of the BS. No vignette issues.

I do have a screw on B&W CPL as well - admittedly easier than the Lee system. I use whichever fits the need at the time.

This ~is~ POTN after all. Get both.

I also use the square CPL inside the Lee holder and have used it at 16mm without vignette. I wouldnt dream of trying to stack the filter holder on top of a screw on filter. I get slight vignetting when I use my 82mm WA adapter with a 77mm step down ring
