Tonight's "meh" sunset.

Tonight's sunset looked very promising about a half hour before sunset. I drove down to the beach and set up, getting ready for what was looking like a great sunset. After the sun went down, it really looked like the color was going to come out but it never really showed. Here is what I got from the "meh" looking sunset.

Please feel free to let me know what you think and if you like this shot.

Canon 6D w/ 24-105mm
Lee Big Stopper + .3 GND
60 seconds, f/8, ISO 100

The low line of clouds beyond the land mass probably did it in. The best sunset clouds come about when the sun is below the horizon but "close" enough to illuminate the bottoms of the clouds. The higher they are the better. So alto cirrus or alto cumulus clouds are the best. These look like stratus. Try to get something interesting in the foreground of your sunset shots. They're seldom compelling on their own. There are gazillions of shots on the web.
