The 50 f1.2L is a drastically better lens. I started off with the 1.4 also but after trying the 1.2 I immediately sold my 1.4 and bought the 1.2L. I've never regretted it.

I had the 50 1.4 for a while before upgrading the to L. To me, the difference in images was worth the premium for the L lens. Not just 1.2 but color, booked, contrast all play a role. The Canon 50 1.4 was a dull lens, I always had to bump color and contrast in LR but Ive never been disappointed with my 50L. Its my go to lens in pretty all situations.

I love my 50L. Sharpness was not my biggest concern. I liked the fact that it is much more compact than the sigma, and weather sealed. Plus I had no desire to mess around with the dock. If the sigma was a lot cheaper I would've considered it more...but I bought my L used fore about the same price as the sigma.
