The price just dropped

http://shop.usa.canon.com …eras/eos-5d-mark-iii-body (external link)

to $2,499 for a new 5DIII. So I assume another model is coming out soon. I can't say I need anything this year or next. I am just getting used to the 7DII.

From what I have read for the most part is that Canon is bringing up their NON flagship cameras to a level in close proximity to their 1Dx. Reminds me of the phrase of whether the glass is half full or half empty. Could it be that they are going to take the 1Dx to a higher level? Thus separating it from the rest of the pack... Looking at the time line, Canon could be bringing something out that might exceed our expectations.

We may at very least rest comfortably in the assurance that the dynamic range will not exceed, or even meet, our expectations. :p

It sure would be neat to see some updated rumored specs; I'm intrigued what Canon is going to do with the 5D IV. :)

Maybe not:

However, they put this technology in the wrong camera. The 5Ds is the camera that could really use it. The action-oriented 5D4 doesn't really need it. Unless they release an upgraded 5Ds2 at the same time...

I agree. The whole Canon team just keeps shooting themselves in the foot. A landscape/studio camera where DR would have been a blessing gets nothing and an action camera where DR is not so important does. What are they thinking.

Or...

They might be the smartest guys ion the planet and totally understand the Canon buyers mentality. Give them a crippled camera now addressing only a small portion of their needs and 2 years down the road sell them the same camera again but with the missing pieces.

It seems strange to me that Canon call all these very different cameras the 5D. Why not use other numbers and let the 5D develop its own fan base? The 3 is just one example, its been ignored for years now, or what about the 2 or 4?

28 MP is a nice resolution upgrage for the 5D IV. 12 fps is amazing. Canon is going to do very well with this camera I think.

Just noticed that Canon Rumors gave this one a "CR1" rating. So, maybe not so solid.

i'm guessing that is due to him having not actually spoken to the source, but only picking it up from CW (note CW is the source CR mentions in his article). I usually only go to CR, but that's just because it's in my browser cache. I have no idea if one site is more reliable than the other.

although, the 12 FPS does seem a bit much, unless they are doing some kind of mirror up continuous shooting like the 1Dx 18 fps blind jpeg shooting.

Let's just say the rumor is 100% spot on: What camera would you go with: 5DS/R or 5D IV? It could be a painful decision between max detail or max dynamic range.

i find it odd that the 28MP is not noted as having the expanded DR, but the 18 is rumored to have it.

anyway, my computer would choke on 50MP and so far 20MP 6D has been enough resolution for me, but just barely. I would not, could not, go down to 18 MP for DR, but also wouldn't upgrade to 28 unless there was a stop or more DR improvement. So as it stands right now, i'd stick with what i have.

still thinking these come out in the fall, and a new 6D comes out early 2016, with better IQ than any of the 5D family. Outside of resolution of course.
