Damn! I was so sure that the 5dmkii was next for me. Now the 6d is it.

Having used a 40D, a 5DC, and a 6D, I will say that the button/control layout takes some getting used to. It isn't bad and I personally don't mind the differences, but I am still retraining myself how to perform various functions.

Some people are unable (or just refuse?) to go through this process and feel much more at home on the 5D ii layout so just stick with that. I can understand this mindset especially if you are using a crop body with the same configuration as a backup.

For me though, I don't mind learning the layout/configuration on the 6D. I also don't mind not having the joystick which is found on many other bodies. Just wanted to share my experiences on some of the more subtle and less obvious differences.

I think it boils down to whether you want want to spend that extra 500 bucks or not. I've got 5D MK II myself for years and I love it, but I'd still probably go for 6D at this point if I had to make the choice. It's all about the small extra improvements that have come over the years and if you need them or not. And of course that new 6D DSLR can be "ancient" tech just after a few years, just like I think the first 5D is now.

I have owned both. About a year ago, I sold my 5d ii to purchased the 6d. I loved the 5d ii, excellent image quality, a great feeling camera and just a real solid performer. The biggest reason I sold was the weight. I am a 61 yr old female and the camera just seemed too much for me. The second reason was the ISO capabilities of the 6d ii. I haven't regretted the switch and probably would have stayed with the 5d ii if not for those two reasons.

This website I spent a lot of time comparing the two before finally deciding.

With all the people claiming to have picked up the 6D for just over $1K on either Greentoe or after selling their kit lens via an online deal, it is definitely worth the time to check for deals instead of just insta-ordering a 6D for MAP. The savings taking place is real.

I got a refurb from Canon Direct on Black Friday almost two years ago for less than $1300.
Deals are definitely out there.
