Any D70/D70s users? I'm thinking about picking one up because of them being able to flash sync at 1/8000

How is the camera at ISO 100-400? How are the highlights?

Never used a CCD camera before.

This will be a second body just used for flash work(such as band promos).

I think the D70 is the only crop Nikon I've heard of that has as high an x-sync (1/500s) and can actually flash sync up to the max shutter-speed of 1/8000s. If you keep the ISO from 100-400 it'll probably do fine, especially if you don't need a lot of dynamic range. Shame the D90 has a more standard shutter because in almost every way other than the flash synchronization it's a much better camera.

So I spent the other day trying to calibrate my Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC... why? Because I kept noticing how even though some pictures were nice It looked like what I remember having the focus point on was rarely correctly in focus... Right about now I miss the Canon 70D MFA that had 2 MFA points per lens... :( So attempted manual MFA and I thought I was going crazy because the wide end was +2 and the long end landed at -18... So picked up FoCal and spent the morning on the lens... Below is my cheap ghetto rig up :P It was a sunny day out and had to pick a spot shaded from the direct sun (it was around +13EV in that spot) because anything in direct sun would over expose even at ISO100 and 4000 shutter speed (since FoCal runs tests wide open).

Crazy thing was when focal lengths were at 35, 50, and 70mm the MFA results always were between -15 to -18. The part that kept driving me crazy and confirmed my manual MFA adjustments weren't off was that the 24mm end consistently hit at +2... arrrrgh!

So I guess I can live with it or send it in to Tamron to calibrate with my body at cost huh? (the downside to buying second hand instead of new!) For now I decided to place the MFA at -16 and live with slightly off focused shots on the wide end...

For those curious - the shots were at 2 meters as that is the normal distance I shoot from and common range for calibration for all of the focal lengths listed according to Reikan's calculator.

Sad thing is most of my shots were acceptable but I probably would never have noticed how off the focus was for a while if it wasn't for the shots I took last week with my 70-200 2.8 VR1... I think I was getting cuts on my corneas just from looking at the resulting pictures, and it is also what told me I needed to check the MFA on my other lenses lol.

Been a while since I have been in this thread. Got my new to me Nikon 70-200 VR1 and had to try it out. I held the VR2 and the Tamron VC quite a bit, but just wanted one that was slightly lighter and most importantly, narrower. I am not a fan of the way the VR2 handles, at all. I am in love with my VR1 and got it for a smoking deal. I tend to go through lenses pretty quickly as I love to try new stuff, but I have a funny feeling this lens will be with me for quite a while.

PS - Yes I know my POS needs some bodywork. :p
