Challenge #530 - EYES

***************
RESULTS!

Thanks to all who entered although I was a bit surprised not to see more - maybe a few macros? Pet eyes? Wildlife eyes"?

Maureen Souza: "What Are You Looking At". A beautiful composition and colour tones with the child's blue eyes clearly the focus of interest.

Jim Askew: "Beautiful Nicole". The title certainly fits your very nice portrait although the focus is maybe on teeth rather than eyes?

Spoco57: "Cheshire Cat carved Jack-o-lantern". An incredible job of carving! I can't imagine how it was done and how the eyes are made to look so real.

corythosaurus: "Eyes Without A Face". A clever composition that succeeds in making the framed eyes look as if they are staring right out of my monitor - rather disconcerting!

rpolitsr: "selfie". I see from the EXIF info that you used flash for this successful "candid" - what was the exact setup?

Raven: "At The Fair". Very nice capture of her eyes looking a bit doubtful about that hot dog!

And the winners are...

#1 Maureen for "What Are You looking At?"
#2 Cory for "Eyes Without A Face"
#3 Rafael for "selfie"

So...over to you Maureen!

***************

Eyes, singular or plural, should clearly be the main subject and focus of attention in your entries - that about it! The winning entry will be the one I'd be most likely to print and hang on the wall if it were mine.

Congratulations to Maureen, corythosaurus and all the other beautiful and photogenic eyes pictures, including the incredible jack-o-lantern.
Thanks for the unexpected third place, teekay. Interesting challenge, and I hoped to see more entries too.

I anticipated a busy weekend so I prepared (spare) selfies with and without eyeglasses on Thursday.

For the setup: a real selfie in the sense that I was in front of the camera extending my arm to press the shutter button in real time.
Some 'sophistication' added:
I set the camera for macro, installed it on a tripod below chin level, enabled the on-camera flash and connected the camera video to the tv set to see the viewfinder indications with or without eyeglasses.
For post processing, custom white balance and camera calibration to compensate for my reddish Pro1 and a tilted crop to add some interest to the composition. :)

Wow, Teekay, that was a tough one to judge! I thought your picks were spot-on, though. I fell for Maureen's little sweetheart the moment I clapped eyes on her... so to speak. Congrats to Corythosaurus and Rafael for their great shots!

We were able to attend the 2014 Jack-o-lantern Spectacular in Providence RI, and the level of artwork on those pumpkins was stunning. I've never seen anything like it. I think initially they were blackened with something and then relief carved. the brighter areas are deeper cuts and the eyes were almost through the pumpkin.

Congrats Maureen, Cory and Rafael.
And thanks, teekay, for judging a fun contest.

I actually worked on entering a set of pet eyes. Just couldn't come up with something I liked. Black pup with dark eyes (and a moving target) was just too frustrating :-)

Congratulations to Maureen, Cory and Rafael, and many thanks to teekay for a clever and fun contest. I agree that in my portrait of Nicole the eyes were not the center, alas I just didn't have the time to find or make a better one last week. I've been up to my eyeballs (no pun intended) with E-Session and Wedding files to edit.
