I see this a lot. People who bought something when it was new are offering at a corresponding used price. When the new price has gone down they often do not adjust accordingly. I see a used 70D for sale at $800 which makes perfect sense if you bought it a year ago for $1200. But the current Refurb price which would give you a year warranty is less than that.

You think amazon should control the price people list their items for?

Perhaps that is your confusion, Amazon isn't the one selling the used items. A large portion of items listed on amazon are listed by independent retailers. And All (except for Amazon warehouse deals) of the used items are independent sellers.

Just like craigslist.

Craigslist: where you can buy used items for more than new ones. With an occasional great deal

I don't think you're getting it. There's nothing to fix. The used items are being offered by people who sell through Amazon, not by Amazon itself. They're allowed to set the price to any amount they choose. If you click on the "used" link, you'll get a list of sellers and prices.

It's basically like eBay's fixed price listings. eBay doesn't control the prices; the individual sellers do.

It's not just CL - there are items for sale in the classifieds here at prices that suggest people have taken leave of their senses (used items for more than CPW deals, for example).

These are people we commonly refer to as reluctant sellers. They will sell, but only if the price is right. They do not NEED to sell and so their price is higher in relation to others.

Also-

Craiglist: Where you can list a nearly new item for half of the best "new" price you can find online, and someone will still offer half of your asking price.

I see that a lot. Its like they never considered why someone would take the risk on a used item to save 5-10%. There are good deals to be had here, but it takes patience.

This is simply free-market economy 101. People can ask whatever that want for their stuff. Prices come down in the face of competition (better prices).

Yeah, just wait until something gets discontinued. The 5d2's are usually more than a new 5d3
