Got to my spot early this morning only to find a large boat on the horizon casting a huge orange glow in my shots, hoping it will have moved on tonight as this spot is very dark! Thirty five seconds, whilst within the 500 rule is just a tad too long and has resulted in a bit of trailing of the stars.

Thanks! Thirty seconds is fine I've found, I was trying to eek out as much light as possible without upping the iso when trying thirty five :)

I totally understand. :) the trailing doesn't really show unless peeping is involved.

I got a new 1.8 lens I've been dying to try out but I haven't had one clear night sky since I've gotten it.

This is fantastic and sounds quite cumbersome to pull off. Nice job. Can I ask how come it took 26 stitched to make this image? It doesn't look that wide, either vertically or horizontally. Just curious. It's a GREAT shot! I would love to be able to post that one to my flickr! ;-)a

Thanks very much Cory!

The image is wider than it looks: it spans at least 280 degrees around the horizon, and I was standing between the two houses that you can see. I shot two rows of 10 images (in portrait orientation) and added 6 more near the zenith just to make sure. (I probably overlap the images a bit more than I need to, because the first time I tried panos like this I didn't shoot enough!). This one took a fair but of stretching and adjusting during assembly to minimise distortion, but I'm happy with the result.

Cheers,
Stephen
