I've done it but the other way around. I usually use BBF but changed it so my wife could take some photos one day. I forgot to change it back and I was pushing the back button wondering why in the hell the camera wasn't focusing. Took me awhile before before the head/palm moment.

Home and staring at the cardinals :( Just teasing with the frown, I love cardinals. Going through trip pics, here's one where the Black Chested let me get real close, well real close is relative-approx 20 feet away, and obviously stared at me like I was crazy-

Took me ____ minutes before I figured it out.... I was outside in front of our rental thankfully.... I didn't drive anywhere. I fussed with it there, gave up and came back to our condo and sat down at the computer to ask you guys. I was typing it out when I looked down at the AF button... and it dawned on me. I felt a bit silly.

Funny you should mention Brutus, I just found this hydro pole across the road that he's been scratching himself on. the darker area is I guess the oils in his fur and the bite marks are 10 or 12 inches taller than me at 6 feet. I have not seen him since the other day. Im thinking I may put the game cam down there and see when he's hitting this pole. looks like he's been at it a few times.

I have the * button setup for BBF because that is were my thumb naturally falls. I don't use the AF-on button.
