Wow! Yet another excellent set of photos.

Jim Askew - Art with Wood: A wonderful rendition of Neuschwanstein (Cinderella Castle). I have always admired the patience and talent of those who work in this kind of art. Well done.

Carolyn - Pier No More: Nice composition. I like this photo. Reminds me of something in my past. A poignant reminder that nothing survives the test of time.

teekay - 1880 Craftsmanship: Round Barn Roof: I doubt many make them like that anymore. Amazing. B&W was a good choice.

Trumer - Wood stone water: Another nice composition. I like the blending of the three elements.

Spoco57 - Fencepost: OK, I really did laugh out loud when I saw this one. :-) Excellent example of nature and human working together. Love the texture of the post.

Michael Wells - The Carvers Canvas: Very nice use of light. An excellent carving for sure. I've tried my hand at wood carving and certainly appreciate this person's work. Nice!

Ravael - hard to climb: That is definitely one gnarly tree!! Almost seems like over protection. Takes texture to a whole new level. What kind of tree is that, anyway?

Well, you all have managed to do it again. Honestly, everyone of these could easily fit somewhere in the top three spots for various reasons.
After going back and forth between all six entries for way too long, I finally narrowed it down to:

3rd place: Spoco57 - Fencepost

2nd place: teekay - 1880 Craftsmanship

1st place: Rafael - hard to climb

Take it away, Rafael.

.

Who doesn't love the warm look and texture of wood. This week let's try to capture those qualities using whatever technique you like.
However, try not to go for wood en masse (ie. landscapes of forests) or something abstract. Singling out a unique tree is OK. As are carvings, furniture, etc.
Have fun :-)

Congratulations to all the participants!
Thanks for the first place, Raven, I feel myself double honored given the high quality of the other photos and the interesting subjects on all of them.
I found mine digging archives.
My original photo is a tight framing of the tree to emphasize the prickles, and I cropped it more to make them visible in the reduced size entry.

I do not know the name of the tree, but I asked to my biologist friends as soon as I posted.I found it in the Zoo of Guayllabamba, near Quito.
All the guides there were prepared to give me the names of the animals, not the plants :)

In fact, I'm not sure if it is one tree or two trees with their main trunks 'welded' (see below). The biologists will have the last word.

I will post a new challenge soon.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks Jim for hosting and judging, good call.
I loved Teekay's barn roof and Spoccos's fencepost also made me laugh out loud. I also liked the lighting on Michaels 'Carvers Canvass' and the composition of Trumpers 'Stone, wood, water'
I can't imagine ever having the patience or gift to complete such a stunning scene Jim captured.
Looking forward to the next challenge Raphael :-)

Wow, that is not a tree for a beginner to climb. I'd hate to be chased by a bear and find that as my escape route. Good shot, Rafael.

Congrats too, to Teekay. That is a great shot of awesome old-time engineering. That centerpost is impressive.

Thanks, Raven, for the 3rd place nod and for the idea and judging duties.

We were walking a pathway to see Clifden Castle in County Galway, Ireland and noticed that someone along the way had decorated this fencepost with teeth and eye and hair. I only wish I could've gotten some real animals to pose in the picture, but alas, the pony was in the pasture across the way. Maybe next time.

Good shots all. Loved the colors in Car's and Trumper's photos! Beautiful.

Congratulations, Rafael, and thanks for the coveted #2 place, Raven! So many excellent variations on "wood" this week that I'm glad I didn't have to judge.

The round barn I showed is now in the U.S. national register of historic places. HERE (external link) is the Wiki entry. We came across it 2002 "in the middle of nowhere" on vacation when I was having fun with my first digital camera - the G1. I'd really like to know what settings I used for that shot but I can't find EXIF info on any of my G1 images, so assume it wasn't included in those days.

In case anyone wondered why I deleted my original entry (an old wooden wheel) for this challenge, it was because I suddenly realized it was taken with my SX50, not a G-series.

Congrats Rafael, teekay, and Spoco! Great shots all! Rafael, whatever that tree is, nature appears to want it protected!! Thanks, Jim for hosting and judging this week…great topic also!
