I am much the same. The 1000D has done me well and I will still use it but I have now upgraded to a 700D.

I just bought this camera for $85 body only, so I can mod it into an infrared camera. Looks like a great little camera.

Been a while since I posted. Have had my trusty XS for about 6 years. Shot with it during lots of business trips overseas and vacations. Mostly shoot with a Sigma 18-200 walkaround lens. I am finding a lot of my shots (particularly indoors) look a bit soft. Its gotten to the point where my lack of low light ability is bugging me.And yeah, a bit of gesr envy too...

I have heard the old addage "lens first" but it IS a 6+ year old camera. So here's the question: with a limited budget, what should I do to get sharper photos? I'd be a liar if I said I didn't want all those great new features (wifi and nfc, anyone?) but my main goal is better shots. What should I do? Any lens suggestions if I keep my trusty 1000D? I do a mixture of styles but mostly travel/landscapes and want to get more into macro.

I finally pulled the trigger on an upgrade to a Canon 70D after about 7 years of shooting with my wonderful 1000D. This may be one of my final shots with the Rebel XS, but it went out with a bang and did a wonderful job on these fireworks!

Nice fireworks shots. Longer shutter times will get you a lot more bursts, colors, trails, etc. Some of my best are at 15-20 seconds.

Thanks!, and agreed. You just can't shoot long exposures handheld. One of these days I really must try using a tripod but so far I'm more of a handheld, walk-around kind of shooter.
