I picked up a 7DII a few days before an Alaska cruise with family. It's an awesome body, but I've been FF for several years and forgot how much IQ loss comes with the smaller sensor.

That's definitely one of the nicest eagle shots I have seen in a long time. Well done!

Well, I use Lightroom CC now, but did the following also in LR 5. I do my normal processing then the last two things I do is noise reduction and then process sharpening. With 16000 ISO photos I have gotten real aggressive with noise reduction, I usually leave the color noise reduction on the LR default of 25 because that has usually taken care of the color noise. With the Luminance noise on 12500 and 16000 shots, I run the slider up to 50 or 60 (in extreme cases). I then sharpen them by running the slider up to about 75 or 80. I then hold the Alt key (on a PC) and run the mask slider up until all I see are the edges (or just the areas I want to sharpen). That way I just sharpen the edges and don't bring noise from sharpening back into the background and other areas where I really don't need to sharpen.

I do get some smoothening and loss of detail. I try to balance it out the best I can. I thought the dugout celebration shot of the last photos I posted might have had a little too much noise reduction.

Just now saw this. Thanks for the info buddy. I will have to try this out.

I thought I would post this as an example on what you would expect to have fallen apart completely, but proved somewhat salvageable image with edges etc. despite the remaining noise.

ISO 25,600 7dii Canon 70-200 f2.8 II + 2x iii. AI Servo. 5 minutes before sunset. Shot 12,800 and pushed 1 stop in post.
Jpeg ooc.
338mm, distance about 70 years (edit : YARDS) , 40% linear Cropped OFF, minimal noise/sharpening in LR5.7 (I know I should have done more. )

Edit: oh yeah, this was hand held mode 2 IS.

I was going to say if it was so far away you measured it in light years? That is one excellent photo for being handheld.

Gschlact, ISO 25,600....I don't know what to say. I wont even do that with my A7s!

I'm loving the 7D2 more and more; the AF is wonderful. Here are some shots from a herding dog competition; these were shot with the v1 100-400.

Not as good as Jeff's critter shots, but this critter (oldest grandson) spent the weekend. I wish I had stopped down a little more on the first one for a little more depth of field and I think I am going to MAF my lenses again after the firmware update.
