Heya,

Cheap Neewer 24x24" softbox
Cheap Impact stand
Yongnuo 560 III + Yongnuo RF603CII transciever
Canon 5D (classic) + Canon EF 85mm F1.8
1/100s, F2.0, ISO 400 (for ambient light, it was very dark)
Flash power 1/128 at very close range (2.5 feet or sO), zoomed out to 24mm
No ND filters used; it was already very dark outside, post-sunset

Edit: Here's an up to date shot of the portable softbox & YN 560 III (built in wireless receiver, no extra devices needed, love these!)

What lens did you use? I love it.

I am using 400mm/2.8 L IS on 5DIII camera. Seldom I also use a TC1.4, but prefer naked lens only and get to the animal as close as possible. When I used the old 400 2.8 L II non IS, or 400mm 5.6 L, I used more often 12mm macro ring. The IS version has MFD only 3m, which i why I choose it over 600mm/4. I think 400mm is a great focal length if you know how to make a good camouflage.

These pictures below shows floating platform and are taken from it.

Forgive this setup photo, it was not taken at the time of these photos, but it's the same setup as described above. Very inexpensive.

Heya,

Testing some gels & testing just how far I can go with ND filters and a single speedlite. Testing white balance and different CTO's. I'm color blind to red/green so I'm often totally at a loss when looking at images to know if people are orange or not.

Verdict: Speedlites just don't output enough power. I need a strobe. I'm now flirting with a 600ws monolight that is portable & battery powered.

Anyhow, the setup:

6 stops of ND filters stacked up.
85mm at F2
ISO 100
1/200s (synch)
5D
White balance set to Daylight

24 x 24" softbox with baffle.
Yongnuo 560 III at 1/1 power, gelled with a 1/4th CTO to warm it up
Yongnuo RF603C II transceiver to trigger

Bright day, bright back-lighting from sun, later evening but still quite bright out.

And here's the test shot (outdoor studio type look, wanted it dark, warm, contrasty, but kind of soft, didn't quite get the soft look I wanted):

Heya,

Playing around with ND filter, gels and full flash in softbox, chasing the kid around.

5D classic
EF 200 F2.8L @ F4
3 Stop Marumi ND filter
1/200s
ISO 100
(That put me at sunny 16 (1/100s, F16, ISO 100) exposure value, and it was late afternoon, so a little less bright than typical high-noon)
1/4th CTO Gel on Flash
Yongnuo 560 III, Flash at full power (1/1)
24 x 24" softbox, kept about 3 feet away (constantly moving it to catch up with the squirt)

Late evening, in the bright sun, always trying to shoot into a back-lit scene (testing flash, exposure, power needed, etc)
