For those of us in the United States, please remember what today really is...Memorial Day, a remembrance of those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

I've always had a problem with the limitations of memorial day. I prefer to remember all those who served. I know that's veterans day, but those who served deserve two days. So in that spirit, Jim, I remember you and you are greatly missed.

A good percentage of my Facebook friends are veterans, some are LEO's... another patriotic bunch... and some are both. Some are current active duty military. I always enjoy the things they post on FB to try'n get folks to remember what this day is for, and to nudge people's thoughts in that direction. I seldom make it through the day without getting a lump in my throat several times.

Someone posted pictures of a couple eating establishments that set an empty table, with a single chair, and a sign on it or on a nearby wall, explaining what it's for.

I wish more businesses did stuff like that.

What is the significance of this? It sounds familiar, but as a Canadian, I am not up to speed.

Think of it as a "missing man table," if you will.

Not my picture:

I see, a way of commemorating the soldier who fell in the line of duty, unable to take a seat. A fitting honour to their memory.

Dad's turning 70 on June 2nd. This Saturday we're holding a surprise birthday party for him. Right now my brother and I are going through tons and tons of old slides. For now, I'm taking pictures of the slides on the screen. Soon enough we want to get a good slide/negative scanner and digitize everything.

I've heard of families setting a place for a missing member, but I haven't heard of establishments doing this. I like the idea. Simple and meaningful.

I got the results from my test back today. Online, all they do is change your status and bill you for your license. I got 110 out of 125, or 88%, on the exam. :)
