per the charts this lens is a dog, but from the samples this lens renders beautifully, up into the league of the magics, 50l ,85l, 135l, 200l 2/1.8, 50art, i dont know anything about anything longer than 200, my wallet doesnt allow it

The 85 has never been referred to as a dog and probably one of Sigmas best lenses pre-Art.

Sure it has quirks, but what 3rd party doesn't? Fine tune in camera and it's an awesome lens.

the dings on photozone de:
borders/corners are rather soft in the full format scope
he resolution figures suffer quite a bit due to rather pronounced coma at large apertures
The Sigma struggles somewhat more than usual hereLongitudinal (Axial) Chromatic Aberrations (LoCA)
** and the mtf carts are pretty poor except in the center
i think it barely made a 3 out of 5 stars for optical quality.
but again the photos it makes are amazing, charts arent everything

I owned this lens previously for about a year or so. By far became my most used lens ever.... EVER. Still holds the record for most captures in lightroom from a single lens. I sold it 3 months ago to move to a 70-200 setup.

I just bought me a second copy. I miss it.

Here is a shot @ 1.4 from my previous copy:

I just bought this lens (again). Debating on it replacing my 135L which I find just a bit too long, but i LOVE it, so we'll see. Cant wait to get it and add to this thread.

Sold this and waiting for the 85A. Meanwhile the 85 1.8 will do the job. Come on sigma! Give me something to smile with the Zeiss Batis.

I'm not a big fan of head tilting 3/4 pose but this one looks great. Well done.
