Tim - I absolutely did not mean to impugn your parenting, I love it when people do rescues, and I apologise for giving that impression. I only meant that in the early days, I see that expression of not quite believing their wonderful new home will last - I've seen it in my own adoptees. Once they realise it's their 'furever' home, well, that's when they start getting cheeky and confident and playful. It definitely shows in that last pic - his eyes are so soft and relaxed.

I know you'll give him many happy years, and he you.

Dear greyswan,

I'm sorry if I implied that you did impugn my parenting. In retrospect I saw that you were making the post from the dog's POV, and with that in mind it was clear to see that our Bear was tentative and unsure of himself.

At the time of my original post back in late March I was kind of overcome with joy in having a new four-legger in the house so I was definitely not looking at things from Bear's POV. Your post made me sit back a minute and think, and I can tell you that it was greatly appreciated even if it didn't feel that way at the time.

Sometimes an outside eye makes it easier to appreciate and understand what you have otherwise you naturally tend to take things for granted. Your post provided that for me. Bear is now digging life, and my wife Theresa who steadfastly refused to have another dog in the house after we put Avalon down digs the Bear. It's all good around here!

Sincerely,

Tim Murphy

This chap passed away a few years ago, fantastic wee guy from the SPCA in NZ :)
He was even in the news paper at the time, as the place had to be quarantined the weekend we went to pick him up.

Here's Piper, our daughter's half Golden, half Border Collie/German Shepherd. When our daughter brought her home at 8 weeks Piper had already had 5 previous "owners", most for only a day or two at a time. She's been with us now for 11 wonderful years. Piper is our third rescue dog. Previously we had a Lab/Sheepdog and a purebred Beagle.
