I mean, sure I could use $100. But I don't know. Maybe I'd rather sell clothes instead.

Yes, but don't you want to keep your clothes for you kids someday?! You know... "parenting the cheap way" :p

Seriously though, your clothes will go out of style very soon, then they will come back around and your kids (or kids' kids) will be stoked that they have some in-style vintage clothes!

I'd put an old 18-55mm kit lens (or something similar) on it and throw it in the car for unexpected shooting opportunities.

FWIW, I still use mine a bit. But then, I also use an ancient 1Dmk2n quite a bit, too...

Here's a shot I took a few years ago that I wouldn't have used any camera but my "worthless" 20D and 18-55mm lens.
I was literally standing in water up to my chin...

I've only had my 20D about three years, and still keep it now I have a 50D for backup and for my kids (mostly late teens daughter) to borrow when required. I used it weekend before last at an airshow, so that I could have a body with a short/wide lens on it for when the aircraft were taxiing past about 75 feet away. I used my normal walkround 20-40 Sigma on it, and got a couple of good shots of some of the larger aircraft; B17, C47, PBY Catalina from a useful angle. I would not have been able to swap the 100-400L on the 50D, so some extra images I would not have otherwise got.

Kind of wondering where you are. I am out in the middle of corn-country in north-central Indiana and I can always find people willing to take photography equipment. I donated some old manual film stuff that used Hg batteries, which have been illegal for about 40 years. No battery, no meter. "No problem", I was told. "We have light meters. What we don't have is cameras. Thanks." They kids were checking them out before I got out the door. Moral of the story, if you've got stuff to give away, I'll take it. If it works, I can find it a home.

I still have a 30D, which on eBay a few months ago, was worth about $150. It is my second backup, behind my 60D and 70D. But I would rather donate it than try to sell it.

I used my 30D for years after it was retired from 'regular 2nd body' use as the camera I'd have in the office drawer, or the one I'd take to the pub or whatever (it had displaced, in turn, the 300D I'd used previously as my pub-cam). The 30D has only recently been retired from that role by an X Pro-1 which I somehow accidently acquired.

They have had decent replacements for those old Mercury cells available for some time. I know at one time the voltage was a bit off, which would affect the metering level a bit, but I believe that they have sorted that out now.

Quite right, sir. I believe I used 2-LR44s and a bit of foil in my FX2. Meter was maybe 1/2 a stop off in good light, but it was variable. I haven't had one of those bodies in years. To my mind, the FX3-S2K was the best camera Kyoto Ceramics ever made.

If anyone's having trouble giving away a 20D, I'd be happy to take it off their hands.:-P

Zinc-oxide hearing aid batteries work well; they maintain a constant voltage for those old, unregulated light meters.
I've used them on a couple of old '60's Nikons (Nikon F and "Nikkomat" Ftn) and they work fine. They have a short lifespan though.

Now that you mention those, I definitely remember using those, but I can't recall in which camera(s).

Maybe not to you, but I still use mine.

I wrote "less useful", not "completely useless". Of course it will do the same as it always did (as long as it works), but in general, a similar modern camera will do that task better. Hence "less useful".

Even better, the MR-9 adapter with a silver oxide cell in it. The silver oxide battery does not start dying the minute you peel the air seal off.

Well, that is a good idea. I have a Brownie Hawkeye Flash that probably hasn't had film in it for 30 years. My kids can throw it out when I die.

I have a couple of Minolta XD-11s and an X-700 plus several Minolta MD lenses that have been sitting around doing nothing for more than 20 years. I don't even know if the cameras even work anymore and I don't care. I'll never use them again, but I keep them just to take up space - I guess...
