Great shot of the Blenheim, I can't wait to see that at Flying Legends this year :-)

Might have to stick that dual ISO feature on my camera and give it a go as it seems to work really well. I can see the sort of conditions you were shooting in (all too familiar at airshows in this coutry haha) and it really seems to have helped get those dark planes nicely exposed without a completely blown out sky.

The Dual ISO is nice, but the loss of vertical resolution is not good. Not an issue except when you have lines that are just off of vertical, when you end up with an odd feathered/stairstepped edge. You get great exposures, but then can't print them anyway. The advantage it gives is that you do not have to try pushing quite as far to the right as you would otherwise need to. I was using 100/800, but actually I think it might be better to shoot at just 100/400, or as there is also an option to just have a fixed offset, maybe +1 or +2 stops. With the fast jets I was often shooting at ISO 1600, with Dual ISO still handing me ISO 800. I also thought it would be a good idea to have Dual ISO set to alternate shots, however I found out that there is a problem with that option and burst mode shooting. The Dual ISO/Normal gets locked during rapid shooting, so you get one burst with Dual the next normal, although if there is a bit of a delay it might still swap during a burst. Both of these were normal ETTR.

29 Sqn Typhoon, this aircraft has been painted in the camouflage colours used during the Battle of Britain to commemorate the award of the Victoria Cross to Flt lt James Nicolson in August 1940. It carries the squadron codes of his 249 Sqn Hurricane.

Nice, but a substantially slower shutter speed would make them much better. The frozen prop/rotor look is not great. I would suggest around 1/160 as a maximum for propellers on aeroplanes. Helicopters are even harder, they usually seem to need 1/100 or longer for any decent rotor blur. Aviation is one situation that really calls for a lens with good image stabilization, and that has a panning mode (So not that Tamron 150-600).

Thanks for the suggestion, but I was actually intending to stop the props. Next time I get a chance to shoot one of these small planes or a copter, I will try the other look and try and capture some blur.

Seeing if the 400 DO IS II + 1.4xIII can substitute for the 500 II.
All at 560mm...

Thanks.
I was very impressed with the 400 DO II. Its AF performance and IQ is right up there with my 300 f2.8 IS II.
