G'lord, sony is just cranking out those bodies.

Wikipedia shows that A7/A7R was announced in Oct 2013. So in ~20 months, Sony announced A7, A7R, A7S, A7II, and A7RII.

Really curious as to what their strategy is with so many bodies released in such a short time span.

I prefer to think of it as two generations of bodies, with three sensor options for each one.

Better this way than to go with the Canon approach and only offer one, middle-of-the-road sensor that satisfies neither the high-IS, low-light action shooters nor the megapixel-hungry landscape and architecture shooters.

I'm definitely buying this one.
Time to weed out my Canon lens collection.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

My used a7r arrived at 4pm, Sony could have waited a few more hours to announce :( But it is pricey and I could not wait for August. Certainly on my list once prices fall a little, unless of course the legendary A9 appears...

Looks like a great camera, extra kudos to improving the AF, especially with adapters.

Almost pulled the trigger on buying the a7II, glad I waited a few more days. Going to make a great addition to my camera gear.

Still compressed RAW, tiny battery and no charger :| But once I have a load of stuff for the a7R I can use it with the mk2... but I will wait for a price drop. ;)

Mirrorless cameras don't hold their value so you could probably grab a new A7rII next year for $2500 maybe even $2000 for a used copy.

I had thought that I'd be bothered by the tiny battery and no charger, but once you use the a7x cameras, it really is an ovwrexaggerated worry. 3 party accessories work just as well and a tiny battery goes well with a tiny camera :)

I can carry a spare in my pocket and forget that it's even there.

Forget the charger at home? Use it with a mini-usb cable for charging. I love it.

Not a limitation for me, but different strokes for different folks. :)

I'll take it. I just sold my A7 R and A7. I'm gonna keep the A7s and mate it with the A7 R II! It's so nice to walk around with no bulky DSLR in the bag!

That depends (like everything else) on how well they sell. The a7S is still the same price it launched for.

Yup. Up until this thing was announced y'day, the a7r actually didn't drop too significantly in price ($300 price cut) since it's release at the end of 2013.

I suspect that they wouldn't be worried until it actually starts to affect their bottom line. It does seem as if Canon is stuck a generation behind the others though. Clearly we have to see how the new cameras perform, the 5Ds and the new A7r but on paper, the Canon is looking a bit behind in technology, features, and definitely on price.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

If reports of AF performance of Canon lenses on the a7R II prove true, The Sony bandwagon is about to get a whole lot bigger. Canon waited years to roll out a high resolution camera - basically a 3-year old camera with a 50MP sensor - meanwhile Sony's giving us the resolution WITH amazing DR and a ton of other tech (IBIS, 4K, Backlit Sensor, etc.).

Who knows, maybe Canon can just become another Sigma or Zeiss - a third party lens developer for Sony Alpha cameras.

It's called innovation ;-)a

I guess people are used to trying so hard to reverse engineer and justify the duopoly stalemate between Canon and Nikons lack of interesting cameras :p

I say the more bodies, with more continual innovation etc, the better!

It's good news for everyone, as it sets the bar for what the other companies have to do in order to be competitive.

Couldn't agree more... a7rII looks really promising and I'm really looking forward to handling one.
