Hi,
i understand that the 5d Mark iii can control the 600EX RT flash wirelessly. But can i get it to control the 430EX as well?

That i would like is to have the 5d Mark III control two flashes 600EX and 430EX of which none are mounted on the camera.

1000.
No. The 5D Mark III can not control the flash wirelessly either in Radio or optically as it does not have a built in flash.
Since you have one Canon 600 EX-RT you have the ability of Radio communication. The Canon ST-E3 RT transmitter will afford you the most reliable radio communication. You will also be able to control much of the information of the off camera flash fron the ST-E3 Transmitter placed in the cameras hot shoe.
The best thing to think about is selling your 430 and invest in another 600 EX-RT as the 430 will nullify all the advantages that the 600 offers.
The 430 does not have built in Radio communication. Unable to shoot Radio in ETTL or Group Mode. The list goes on.
When the 600's were first introduced I was in the market for another Speedlite to compliment my 580 EXII and 430 EX. Since I used both the 580 and 430 with Pocket Wizard Plus II Transmitter, I knew the advantages of having built in radio communication. No more cords to lose or break, no additional batteries and the cost of additional Pocket Wizards when purchasing additional Speedlites. Also no failure with heat and humidity.
So I bought the New 600 EX-RT along with the ST-E3 Transmitter. For the next few days I knew I needed more 600's as the reliability along with Built in radio was a must. Time to trade in the old 580 and the 430 for another 600 EX-RT.
Simply put, one of the best investments I made.

Nick5 is right and I agree. Long term transitioning to 600 series is optimal whether it be Cannon 600EX-RT or Yongnuo's YN600-RT. Another option is to get a YN622C-TX for the camera and two YN622C for your two speedlights. The 622s play very nicely with both your 430 and 600. Just another option to look at depending on funds available. You have to alter some settings on the 622 to get the 430EX to play but nothing special is required for complete control of a 430EX II.

What do you mean when you say "control the flashes"? If you just want them to fire then a manual trigger like the YN 603II will work and is very inexpensive. The YN 622 will allow you to use ettl and/or control power settings but costs twice as much as the 603II.

Sorry. I should have said complete REMOTE control. The 603's simply trigger the flash. The 622 system allow you change the settings and power remotely. Yes they cost twice as much because they do twice as much and more.

Sorry, mine was intended to be a reply to the OP. But we're on the same page here.

:D

I have both the 603II and the 622, both worth every penny.

Thanks for the replies. What i meant by "control" was actually that if the camera could trigger the flashes.
