New acquisition. Meyer-Optik Trioplan 100F2.8, know for its funky bubble bokeh.

That's an interesting looking lens. Sample pic?

Since I already own the 100-400L and am very happy with it's performance, I will hold on to it to use on the a7rII, just like I use it on my a7r...just with better AF. And since the Sony cameras aren't minimum aperture limited for AF, I should be able to use my 2x extender on the 100-400 and still achieve AF although time will tell how the performance will suffer. I'm really looking forward to trying that combo out.

While I enjoy the 100-400L with the A7II, I would greatly prefer a lighter option. I think the 400/5.6 is quite a bit lighter.
Since I am pretty well covered between 100-200, and have a 300, there really is no need to have the 100-400. Seems redundant.
I guess my goal is to have less overlap (and also, to justify buying yet another lens, hehe).

Hi Puckman weather hasn't been conducive to using this lens right now and I'm still waiting on my NEX extension tube set. The lens is known for it's unique bubble bokeh when shot wide open. Plenty of samples on flickr Meyer-Optic 100 group at https://www.flickr.com/groups/1015178@N21/ (external link)

The lens when shot wide open with background specular highlites produces an interesting "bubble" bokeh, with out highlites the bokeh is extremely smooth, there are a number of examples on the Flickr group. The lens has gone up in price over the last number of years and "minty" samples are hard to come by, I was very lucky to come across this one. Certainly not an every day lens but if you are into interesting bokek this one is certainly one of the more interesting ones out there.

IMO, you need top notch optics to handle the 2xiii. Even with the 70-200ii, I find that IQ is hurt quite a bit. You'll need a sharp prime starting point, otherwise IQ quickly deteriorates.

Yes, 7500 acres burned so far. Residences and recreational camps along Highway 38 have been evacuated.
