A quick test shot from last night with the 7D.

Congrats on getting the 7D - you should like it a lot :-). I have had that one for some time now and although I usually only do wildlife photography I think for your purposes, you will love it. I have just bought the Mk II - couldn't resist the multitude of focussing options (hope I can handle it lol). Thought I would keep the Mk I set up with the macro and use the Mk II with my longer lenses.

Really lovely shot, I like the colouring and lighting. I have never looked at which camera you have been doing your pics with but if I am right in thinking it was the 450D (from your comment), you have been doing a terrific job with it.

Thanks Linda from what I've done with it so far I do like it and congrats on the new purchase enjoy it. Yes I have been using my 450D teamed up with either my 24-105 of 50mm a lot of it is down to having good glass.

I used 500D with good glass to good effect (and still do when weight or riskier are factors!), though 5D3 was a fair jump up!

I too thought you had something fancier than 450D for all your great work!!

Thanks Martin, good glass and getting it right in camera is the best way to get a good photo. Having the newest bestest kit won't make a good photographer it's knowing how to get the best out of what you've got. People get to caught up in the pixel wars etc, it's your skill as a photographer not the camera that gets results.

Absolutely!

+ a bit of luck - I think my fave from a recent trip was with a cheap waterproof camera - but then I wouldn't have been able to take a DSLR as it was potentially very wet!

I've always fancied one of those myself a waterproof housing for a dslr is so expensive for something you probably won't use that often.

Looked out of the window tonight and I had to shoot something so I thought I'd give the Martello Tower another go.

Thanks Richard, I did bracket some to give HDR a go I'm just never that happy with the results when I do though.
