Yeah, was pretty cool to see. I'd imagine your area has a lot more wilderness than my "area"...these were taken 4 hours away from where I live. Although Jersey has a lot of forests filled with everything from Bears to Birds, when I found out there was a State Park on Assateague Island that allowed RV's, I booked quite a few trips, lol!

Yeah, the bokeh is fine if you blur it out enough. But if the blur is small, you get double vision in the background.

...and, for the first time, now I see what people mean by ugly blur. :(

I do think the back ground is a mess, ...But I also see you shooting down on the bird and it looks more like motion blur to me, at F8 you brought more of the back ground into focus or partially anyway,.. and with the compression .. you got ugly ...

Im betting he was walking and you were panning,...At 1/400 the back ground would be in motion moving far faster than the bird

This shot has sticks in the background, there a good 15 feet or more behind the Loon nest and you can see they are not motion blur'd

Those have not migrated to our province yet.

I have read about this lens for a few weeks now and am considering a purchase. One topic of concern has to do with the sharpness vs the old Version 1. According to numerous reports and opinions Ive read the overall sharpness of the version 2 is better (corners ect) but there is almost no difference in sharpness in the center portion of the frame vs. the version 1. Can you guys who have used both lenses comment on this please? I love the new features of the ver2 but not $1200 dollars more if the sharpness is not noticeably better. Thanks in advance.

I did not own the MK1 but I did read mixed reviews about it. Soft at 400 by plenty of people proved that wrong. I was skeptical but decided to go with the MK2.

The only thing I can think of is there no contest with AF acquisition speed compared to my 300L F4 IS. IS is much better as well. Not the same lens but both it and the 100-400 MK1 are older tech. Not sure if that is worth $1200 to you. I never thought I'd give up on the 300 up but know it sits more often than it ever did.

There are a few members that have/had the MK1. I'm interested in their feedback.
