Which missing Top ART lens should Sigma create asap ?

I want to see sigma release a 85 1.4 OS with fast AF (at least same speed as the current 85 1.4 or close to canon 85 1.8) and price around 1100-1200. Im curious to see how many FS threads of the 85Lii in the marketplace section.

My math tells me that a 200mm f/2 has a front element about the size of this lens;

That design is very old, and has no OS.

As front element diameter is a very good gauge of weight, and cost, I am not sure how SIGMA would be able to sell this lens for much less than the $5K they are asking for the old 500mm.

So "cheap" is simply out of the question here.

I'd much rather them do something out beyond 300 with a fast aperture than a 200/2. Unless they found a miraculous lens material which offered excellent IQ and super light weight

85 art will be great. I had the 85 non-art before, but the auto focusing is very unreliable.

Weird.

I find that my Sigma 85mm focuses much more accurately than my 35mm Art.

I find my Sigma 85 to be top notch. Just throw the art body around the optics/af and call it good.

No thanks. I came to grips with my limitations years ago.

Actually, the missing Art (and Sport) lens I want them to make is all of them... with a Sony E-mount.

Over the last few years, the E-mount has evolved from simply being yet another mount option for crop-sensor mirrorless bodies (in the NEX series) to being a serious contender in the professional arsenal (non-action at the moment, i.e. everything except sports and wildlife, but it won't be too long before it's a contender in action photography too). But one of the main things holding it back is lack of native lenses, hence the heavy reliance on Canon/Metabones at the moment. I'd like to see how fast the A7r2 focuses via an adapter, but it'd be nice to have some top-tier, wide-aperture E-mount lenses to use (Sigma or Zeiss Otus), instead of budget/light-weight-oriented compromises.

I think an 85mm Art might not be far away. The Australian importer/distributor is selling "excess stock" on eBay at the moment. I've seen a few pop up in the last few weeks (and managed to get one for $640 - brand new, presumably never opened with warranty cards and all). They have another on there due to finish in a couple of hours

I would really like to see an 85 f1.4 Art from Sigma.

For me it would ideally be an ART version of the 16-35l and 70-200l at less than f2.8 and for the tele, image stabilisation. That way I'd be all sigma in my bag.

I'd like a 12-24. My old 10-20 isn't overly sharp in the corners, plus I wouldn't be able to use it on a FF body in case I win the lottery some day and can afford one.

Interesting. The SIGMA 12-24 was ground breaking, ahead of it;s time and for a decade the widest auto focus full frame lens available.

Canon's entry into this market is only a toddler by comparison, it beats the SIGMA by a mere millimeter @ 11mm at the wide end, and it costs about 6 times as much as the SIGMA did when launched, and 3 times what the current 2.5 gen DG MkII costs new.

The problem? SIGMA did not yet have the chops to pull off a very sharp wide angle. This was long before "ART" and even before SIGMA's earlier highly regarded primes, like the 30mm. Before "DG" before "OS"...

For the ultra wide FF aficionados, a new 12mm "ART" could be a very nice alternative to the very highly priced Canon.

I have both the sigma 35 and 50 and can only say great things about them, so I would love a wide zoom to replace my 16-35/2.8 as well. (Plus a 70-200 sport to match Canon's MK2 hehehe)
