Thank You. I chose the least possible offensive pose from that series.

Msowsun. This is a beautiful image with nothing disgusting about it; I also appreciate seeing how it was obtained which is, after all, the purpose of this thread. However, the post would have been better served in G&N where more like minded people, myself included, would have seen it. It appears that you may have already suspected as much when you describe it as "... the least possible offensive pose...", but regardless of where it's posted, thanks for sharing it.

How do you achieve focus with that much ND? Focus on subject without filters then tell her to stand still until you put your filters on?

Maybe live-view, in my experiments with ND10-11stops I found out that LW will work fine if there is enough light, even if you dont see anything in the viewfinder.

I have never had a problem capturing focus on any of my cameras using a ND filter unless I'm shooting in the dark and need a flashlight. If your having problems make sure your lens and filter are clean.

That's how I read it also. Hah! Yeah, I can focus with -4 stops but not with -16 stops. Mystery solved. ;-)a :p

No focus issue with 4 stop ND, I just have a hard time seeing the AF spot.

There are several ways of matching color temperature, the easiest is to do some prep work, go to the place the day before and shoot some images with a white balance target. Not the 18% gray, use a real digital white balance target like the colorchecker or WhiBal. Take some without the flash and then add the flash and shoot some. Once you get home open them in your raw processor and look at the difference in readings then gel accordingly.

I guess the easiest is to use a color meter and do the math right on the spot but those are so expensive.
After awhile it becomes easier and you know you'll need once certain kinds of CTOs for daylight.

Another way is to do it in post and mask to match.

Thanks! That is what I was looking for. That is basically what I've been planning on doing and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something easier/obvious. I had no idea there were color meters, and you are right they are expensive. I can't justify spending that kind of money when my camera, lens, flash, etc. altogether cost less than one of those meters. Although I think those color checkers are crazy expensive too. I guess I'm cheap. :-)

Those pictures were shot at around 10am, so the ambient color temperature was quite matching the color temp of the strobe, that is true that when shooting closer to the golden hour or sunrise/sunset can be more tricky.

Well now that I know your secret I'm a little less impressed. ;-)a
Really though, the shots and processing are amazing. I thought you might be saying that you had done as Daniel.E mentioned and masked-to-match in post, but it sounds as though you were fortunate enough to not have to deal with that problem. Again, wonderful shots.

And thanks to everyone for explaining this to me. I love these forums and all the help.

Thank you!

Yes, it certainly is less impressive this way I agree :p

Heya,

My old 5Dc can focus through 6 stops of ND filter in normal day light without much problem.

4 stops is very easy.

Just food for thought!

Very best,

Are there any "intimate parts" actually showing? I don't think there are...I agree...a totally ARTISTIC nude. Beautifully done.

The key in deciding what needs to go to G&N is not "artistic" or "non artistic", it is nude.

To all: post such material in G&N, please. Thanks.

$20 used golf cart, milk crate, sand bag, light stand, 600w strobe, 7' parabolic (usually a socked beauty dish if it's windy), and a vagabond mini. Haven't found a better way to do this!
