Did you MF #3 and then just spray as the ball was passing through? Or is that somehow shot in servo tracking the ball?
Either way, really nice set.

Thanks. I manually focused about 10 ft in front of the plate and then "sprayed and prayed". I did (try to) time it as if I was trying to get the ball on bat so it only took me three pitches to get it but I still think it was 50% luck

Very cool and great catch! What lens are you coupling with your 7DII, if may I ask?

these were all taken with the Canon 300L 2.8. I purchased a used version this year and it has been my best purchase to date!

Do you find you are missing the IS or are you shooting at a high enough shutter speed that it is not an issue? I am debating getting the 300 f4 with is and wondering if I will miss that extra stop.

Mine actually has the IS but I don't use it for sports. There are several theories behind not using it but the main reason I don't on my 7D MkII is battery life. Also it can cause issues when panning. There are tons of opinions and articles on why/why not use for action so take what I say with a grain of salt and experiment and research to see what works best for you.
